FOSTER, Roy Allan

May 23, 1952 – Gull Lake, Saskatchewan
July 17, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Roy Allan Foster, beloved husband of Sandra Ann Foster (nee Neary) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the age of 66 years.

Al was born in 1952 in Gull Lake, SK to Don and Jeanette Foster. He later moved with the family to Calgary where they called the neighbourhood of Ogden, home. Al went to work at a local pipe mill at the young age of 16 where he worked as a dedicated employee for 32 years; he was well liked and respected by the companies’ union members. In 1973 he married the love of his life Sandy with whom he just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Later in 1973 they saw the birth of their first son, Richard and then 1976 brought their second son David. The family enjoyed most weekends, out camping in the summer, travelling up to Muriel Lake to spend time fishing with Al’s parents, whom he loved dearly. The winters were dominated by hockey. Al played with the Ogden Legion hockey club (Brew Crew) and most years he coached both son’s hockey teams. His time in hockey forged some of his greatest life-long friendships. He treated the kids he coached like they were his own and was always well liked by his teams.

Summertime also was motorcycle season. Al had a few different bikes through the years but his prized possession was his 1971 Superglide. The friends he rode with were extensions of his family; he loved his friends and family and always put someone else’s needs ahead of his own.

His memory lives on with his loving wife Sandy; his son Richard (Connie); his son David (Shona) and his two grandchildren Odin and Evelyn. Al was the embodiment of selflessness. We all loved him and he will be sadly missed.

Al is now with his parents Don and Jeanette, his grandmother Evelyn and many close friends he’s lost through the years.

A Memorial Celebration will be held at JACK SETTERS ARENA (2020 69 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Arena. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Allan Foster, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.

  2. Sandy, Rik and David,
I am so sorry to learn of your loss. Al was one of those unique men who is forever etched into the hearts and memory of those who knew him. I met Al in October 1973, when I first started work at Prudential and was assigned a locker next to his. As always he made a lasting impression!
His quick wit and incredible sense of humour would often relieve a tense situation at work.
Al’s firm but fair leadership made him a favorite boss and collegue in the Prudential family.

Sandy and family, Ron, Calvin and Maureen,
We are so sad to hear about Allan’s death. He was such a ‘teddy bear’ and we loved our visits with him. We have always appreciated his efforts to stay in touch and to come down to Bassano for events. The twinkle in his eyes and his infectious smile were always a welcome sight. He was such a great storyteller, and we will surely miss our conversations. Love and peace to all of you. Ken and Linda Andres
