FOLEY, Roy Edgar

May 17, 1938 – Kent, England
April 14, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Roy Edgar Foley, 80 years old, of Calgary passed away peacefully the afternoon of Sunday April 14th, after a long battle with dementia. His family was with him just prior to his passing.

Roy was born in Kent, England on May 17, 1938 to Ivy and Edgar Foley. He was married to Rosemarie for thirty-six years and was then married to Sherry for twenty-four years.

Roy immigrated to Trinidad in 1949 and later to Canada in 1966 and became a Canadian citizen in 1971.

Roy was a corrosion analyst/specialist/ABSA inspector and worked in the oil and gas industry for more than forty years in Trinidad, Montreal, Stettler and Calgary. He was passionate about his work and was extremely respected by his peers and coworkers. He was well known within the industry and was proud of what he contributed. He was also a senior member of NACE (national association of corrosion engineers) for over thirty years.

Roy was happiest when using his hands to wood work and tinker with electronics and mechanics. He had an extreme love for music and loved to play guitar and harmonica. He loved animals and the outdoors and enjoyed road trips into the mountains. He was fun loving, caring and always there when you needed him.

Roy is survived by his loving wife Sherry; his daughter, Cindy; and his granddaughter, Brooklyn. Roy also left behind his son-in-law Derrick; step-sons, Jason and Bobby as well as three nephews and six nieces from his first marriage and his cousins, Jim (Ali) and Colin (Chris).

Roy will be cremated as per his wishes, and a private celebration of his life will be held by his daughter’s family and by his wife Sherry.

McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes have created an online page to memorialize Roy’s life and the family members welcome any submissions and condolences.

In living memory of Roy Foley, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  2. Sincerest condolences from the Lams in Toronto.
My memories of Roy are primarily from the early days. I recall the enjoyable family visits to the Foley home in Montreal (also with Nanna) and a visit with my wife Debbi to Calgary in the summer of 1988. The Foley family was always very kind and hospitable towards my family. Roy was a great father and with Rosemarie, raised my cousin Cindy with lots of love and caring. Cindy would not be the strong, caring person that she is today without the positive influence of her Dad. I know that you are resting in peace Roy, smiling down on your family.
Love and best wishes at this difficult time for Roy’s wife and her family and Rosemarie, Cindy, Brooklyn, Derrick and extended family.
From the Lam Family: Allan, Debbi, Ryan, Nicholas and Ray, Pat & Lara.
