FITZPATRICK, Rosamond (Roz) Bernice

February 3, 1925 – Peterborough, Ontario
February 19, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Roz beloved wife of Gerald Fitzpatrick of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018 at the age of 93 years.

Roz was born in Ontario, and lived her young life in Byng Inlet, Ontario. At the age of 17, she moved to the big city of Toronto, and by age 18 she had fallen in love with and married Bill Flynn, who shipped out overseas within months of their marriage. Michelle was born in June of 1944, and as a young mother whose husband was overseas, Roz lived with her parents and her grandmother until he returned from the war in 1946. They were posted to Calgary in 1958, and in 1962, Shannon came along to complete their family. Roz loved skiing, cycling, camping, golfing, and in later years, bridge. In 1991, she met and fell in love with Gerry, and together they embarked on a journey into their sunset years. They were together for twenty-nine years, and shared the same passion for outdoor activities. Sadly she suffered a debilitating stroke in 2009, and spent the remainder of her years at the Bethany Care Centre.

Besides her loving husband, Gerald, Roz is survived by her daughters, Michelle Johnston (Rollie) and Shannon Flynn (Dale Moore); stepchildren Cathy Costello (John) and Michael Fitzpatrick (Eileen); grandchildren, Sandra Johnston (Clint), Jenifer Olar (John), Michael Mitchell, and Wayne Fairless; step-grandchild Sean; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jessie-Sarah, Evan, Jacqueline, Megan and Zoe; sister Barbara; nieces, Denise, Amelia and Nicole; and by her nephew Leo. Roz was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Clarrisey and by sisters Beulah and Madelon.

Condolence Messages

  1. My condolences to the family and friends of Roz. I was her Monday afternoon rehab program instructor for the past year and a half. We always had fun together chatting about her old biking adventures and whatever novel she was reading at the time. Her sense of humour brought a smile to all of us, instructors, students and other program participants, every week. As I’m sure you know, she was a special lady and will be missed by many, even those who only got to meet her in her final years.

When my sister phoned to tell me the news of Roz passing, I thought she could now Join me for a beer hear in Creston BC. She would have loved it out here in the Valley looking at the Purcell’s and the Selkirk mountains. Roz taught me to appreciate the beauty around us. I regret not being able to make a trip back to Calgary for the memorial. God Bless her.
