The Findlays my “first family” in Yellowknife basically for me and my brother years ago when we arrived in YK. My connection to Bob and Joan continued well past my school years. And Joan, Mrs. Findlay as I always called her because my parents raised me to always show respect was a presence until she left for Calgary. A gentle gentle soul who had complete control over my smile muscles and always gave them a great work out when I saw her

  6. Kristin Beaumont

Had the pleasure of getting to know Joan through His Worship Bob, when he brought the Beaumont’s to Yellowknife many years ago now. Seeing her here and there and having small chats always made my day. She never changed in any of those times, always smiling and welcoming. What an angel of a lady. I was blessed to know her and wish I had made more of a fuss over her so that she knew the depth of my regard for her. It was at the highest level. The “other side” is blessed with her presence now.

Joan was a good friend to many people. She was a soft soul who quietly made everyone feel welcomed and cared for. She would gently share things with us and always had a smile.. We have missed her since she went to Calgary. There has been a “hole” at Friendly Friday’s (who meet on Thursdays) since she left.
    Condolences to all your family

My heartfelt condolences to the family. I remember both Mr and Mrs. Findlay from my early days in Yellowknife. Avid square dancers and good friends with mom and dad. They got into a lot of “trouble” (translate: had a lot of fun) together. She will be missed

  13. I have wonderful life long memories of the entire Yellowknife Findlay clan in the 70’s and my heart goes out to all who are feeling the loss of a Matriarch. I remember Joan as fun loving, with a mischievous gleam in her eyes. I expect that the last several years have not been easy for Joan or her family. I encourage the family to focus on the memory of the many, many good years in a long and fruitful life.
