FINCH, Robert Frank

April 1, 1936 – Virden, Manitoba
June 25, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Robert (Bob) Frank Finch of Calgary, Alberta, passed away after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at the age of 83. His only child, Michelle Darlene Finch, was at his bedside.

Robert was born in Virden, MB, on April 1, 1936, where he grew up. Working in oil and gas, Robert travelled Western Canada extensively and, in 1962, met Neva Polzun in Dawson Creek, B.C. They wed four years later and eventually put down roots in Calgary, where Michelle was born in 1973.

Known simply as ‘Finch’ by his closest friends, Robert excelled on the curling rink and the golf course. Robert loved both sports as a participant, spectator and event volunteer.

Robert is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Michelle and David Veitch; grandchildren, Joshua Jack Veitch and Benjamin Robert Veitch of Cochrane; his sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Robert Duncan of Virden, MB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Robert was predeceased by Neva in 1998.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Friday, July 5, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through

The Finch family would like to extend gratitude to the staff of Revera Evergreen and the Brentwood Care Centre, as well as to Robert’s friends, who ensured he could continue to golf and curl in the early years of his illness.
