FAY, John Elliot

March 13, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

John Fay, beloved husband of Mrs. Elley Fay, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre on March 13, 2019 surrounded by family.

John was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on April 23, 1949 and spent his early years living in Saskatoon, Regina, Edmonton, and Calgary. He graduated from the University of Calgary in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He then worked as a petroleum engineer for Stearn Rogers, Pan Canadian Petroleum, Petrovera, and did some consulting for HZ Projects. He received an honorary lifetime APEGA award in 2013. In his younger years John enjoyed playing many sports including hockey, baseball, golf, bowling, and curling. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and taking his family on various road trips seeing much of Canada and the United States. He always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He lived his life with honesty, integrity, and always made his family first. John received a life-saving liver transplant in 2012. Each day his family had with him post-transplant was a gift.

Besides his loving wife, John is survived by his two children, Laura (Jeff) of Calgary, and Charles (Kristyn) of Edmonton; six beloved grandchildren, Sarah, Amy, Henry, Isabella, Heidi, and Anna. He is also survived by two sisters, Nancy Fay of Edmonton, and Meredith (Larry) Miller of Calgary, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter Corinne Fay in 2018, and his parents Eric and Jean Fay.

A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Deerfoot South, 12281-40th Street S.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 2:00p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made to The Calgary Health Trust-Southern Alberta Transplant Program at or The Canadian Liver Foundation-Calgary Chapter at The family wish to thank the army of medical staff who cared for John over the years. In particular, he received exceptional care from The Pre and Post Liver Transplant Team at The Foothills Medical Centre. Thank you to specialists Dr. Johannson (Respirology), and Dr. Mydlarski (Dermatology). A special thank you to Dr. Brandie Walker (Respirology) for the time she spent with John and his family on Wednesday, and all the staff who cared for him at the Foothills Emergency Department.
