FARRAR, Marilyn June

June 21, 1929 – Calgary, Alberta
May 2, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

With deep sadness we are sharing the passing of June Farrar (Ferrari) of Calgary, AB, on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the age of 89 years.

June Farrar (nee Rutledge) was born in Calgary, Alberta and later moved to Longview, Alberta where her father managed the Twin Cities Hotel. She attended high school in Turner Valley where she met Roy Farrar, her husband of 68 years. They began their life together in Patricia, Alberta in a house without running water and electricity. They moved to Royalties, Alberta, then to Calgary and later spent a few years in Swan Hills. During that time they were blessed with 3 boys, Robin, Rick and Drew. They retired in Calgary, enjoying family, golf and traveling together. Her greatest joy was when the family was all together and large dinners were common. June was an early member of the Oil Wives Club, always active as an organizer wherever they lived. She loved to play bridge and curled with the club over the years. She looked forward to the monthly luncheons and meeting with friends.

A wife, a mother, and a grandmother, June had countless treasured friends over the years. She is survived by her sons, Robin Ferrari (Robin), Rick Ferrari (Isabel), and Drew Ferrari (Kurt); and grandchildren, Amanda (Malcolm), Samantha, and Madison. A great-grandchild will be born soon and June and Roy will be watching down. June was predeceased by her loving husband Roy; her father James Rutledge; mother Mary Rutledge; sister Catherine Young and brother James Rutledge.

A Celebration of June’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society, www.alzheimer.ab.ca. The family would like to thank the kind staff at Carewest Sarcee Unit 3C for taking such good care of mom these past months.

In living memory of June Ferrari, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Dear Robin, Rick, Drew and your families – I am so saddened to learn of your mom’s passing! I first knew your family from school in Swan Hills (Robin, you and I were in the same grade). I started working for Home Oil in Swan Hills, then transferred to Home’s Calgary office. I got to know both your mom and dad through the office functions., but really got to know them through the Home Oil Social Club. We went on many “road trips” and had so much fun!!!! Both your mom and dad exuded so much joy, it was impossible for that not to rub off on everyone around. I don’t think I ever saw either of your parents without a smile – both so warm, welcoming and present! “Always a smile, and a gracious lady” fits your mom to a “T”. My most sincere sympathy to all of you during this very difficult time. Praying you will find strength and comfort from family and friends as you grieve such a great loss.
