ESHPETER, Dennis Edward

July 27, 1950 – Killam, Alberta
September 26, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Dennis Eshpeter, beloved husband of Nancy Eshpeter, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the age of 68 years, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Dennis was born in Killam, AB and grew up on the family farm in Strome, AB with his three brothers and two sisters. Music, laughter and 4H were always part of the Eshpeter family. He attended University of Alberta where he studied chemical engineering and enjoyed playing trumpet in the school band. Upon graduation he took a job in Calgary that eventually moved him to Sarnia, ON where he met his beautiful wife Nancy. They were blessed with three children. In 1990 Dennis was transferred with Nova Chemicals to Houston, TX. Over the next six years he enjoyed Tex-mex food and new travel destinations while watching his kids grow up. 1996 brought him back to Alberta where he finished his career in Calgary and transitioned to enjoying retirement. He and Nancy moved to Cochrane in 2005, where he enjoyed the lifestyle and community for many years. Dennis always loved being with his family and friends – he had a quick laugh, an easy smile and a kind heart. His favorite pastimes were enjoying music, taking long walks, as well as golfing and curling with his great friends. He loved taking pictures, travelling and making memories. To Dennis, family was everything. He was an amazing husband, Dad, and Papa who was taken from us much too early.

Besides his loving wife Nancy Eshpeter, Dennis is survived by his children, Laura Quinn (Mike), Brenda Marra (Vince), and Brian Eshpeter (Heather); grandchildren, Connor, Elizabeth and Ryan Quinn, Nicholas and Andrew Marra, and Liv and Dawson Eshpeter; brothers, Ken (Sharon), James (Susan) and Grant (Cathy) Eshpeter; sister Lenore (Norm) Rooke; and brother-in-law Mike Biehler.

Dennis was predeceased by parents, Sylvia and Joseph Eshpeter; and sister, Karen Biehler.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (East of the James Walker Trail and Highway 22 intersection, Cochrane, Alberta) on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (East of the James Walker Trail and Highway 22 intersection, Cochrane, Alberta) on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the Church. Graveside Service to follow at Cochrane Cemetery.

  18. Rick & Yvette Bourque :

    Dear Nancy and Family:
Our sincere condolences following your recent loss. It goes without saying that we will always cherish those musical moments at Sacred Heart church, when Dennis ‘raised the roof ‘ in praise and glory, to our God. Whenever I look at our overhead screen, and even though Dennis’s rear screen projector has long been replaced, I think of Dennis and the many hours that he must have spent in the design and construction, of that project. His love for music and his fellow man/woman were even more evident during those times he shared his talents with his Cursillo friends.
Peace be with you Nancy and whenever you are back in Sarnia, we still live on Laurentian Cres. and we would love to see you.
God Bless … Rick & Yvette Bourque

  20. John and Helen Abelseth :

Dear Nancy and the Eshpeter Family,
I am saddened to hear of the passing of this wonderful man. He and I were very close friends a long time ago and even though we have not seen each other often in the last few years, I will never forget the memories of our times together. Dennis and Ken and Sharon, and sometimes Lenore and I gathered with others to sing and celebrate happy moments as Ken lead with song and guitar and the rest of us joined in.

My love and prayers to all of you as you celebrate his life, mourn his passing and wait until you are re-united once again in the next life.

  21. My sincere sympathy for you and the family Nancy. Although we’ve never met, I worked with Dennis in the early 90’s for a few years. I found him a gentle kind man, very patient and a pleasure to work with. You wouldn’t know this, but my wife and I lived down the block from you on Tawny Road, before you moved to Texas.
