ERMANTROUT, Michael Murray

August 10, 1961 – Consort, Alberta
May 7, 2018 – Kelowna, British Columbia

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts we say goodbye to a very special soul in our lives. Michael passed away in Kelowna, BC, on May 7, 2018 at the age of 56 years of heart failure.

Michael was born in Consort, AB, to parents, Mike and Caroline Ermantrout. He was the youngest of seven children and spent his young years on the family farm. After school he moved on to work at a delivery business in Red Deer, married, had two daughters and spent happy years, working, playing, camping, hunting, fishing and loving each other. He then moved into the oil patch scene, working locally in Saskatchewan and Fort McMurray. Michael was “jovial” and “witty”. The contagious smile and deep laugh let you know you were in his presence. He was a hard worker, both physically and mentally. Like “all us” humans he had his highs and lows, but his positive attitude and Christian faith played a huge role in his ability to mentor and reach out to many others at Freedom’s Door in beautiful Kelowna, BC. The recipients of his knowledge care and love will miss him deeply but will carry on his mission of reaching out “a hand”. He loved his family and friends unconditionally. He will live on through his children and grandchildren.

Michael is survived by his brother, Wilf (Dena), Ken (Donna), Dan (Debbie); sisters, Shirley (Bill), Millie, Marcine (Chuck) and special nieces, nephews and many friends, old and new. Michael will be sadly missed and unconditionally loved by his sons, Cody and Xander; daughters, Mikasa and Mitaya Ermantrout; grandson Preston; granddaughter Davie and special friends, Shirley Sullivan and Michelle (Murray), the mother of his daughters.

He was predeceased by his parents and nephew, Warren.
A private Celebration of Life will be held to honor Michael. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Freedom’s Door, 1279 Centennial Cres, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 6K3 or please do a “KIND DEED” forward in Michael’s Memory.

Condolence Messages

  1. Bruce Harvey :

I worked with and for Mike. He was my workout partner. To this day it puts a smile on my face thinking of the fun we had doing deliveries. He used to say we were the best there ever been. I would reply, the best that there is ever gonna be. Don’t be shocked if you make it to heaven and he asks in a falsetto voice, “Haven’t I seen you some place before?” A lot of good memories. Going to miss you a little while longer my Christian mate. We all will. My condolences to family especially.

Mike was well loved by those whom he considered his Kelowna family, among which we considered ourselves fortunate to be a part. Mike lived with us for several months a few years ago, and we came to know and appreciate his generous spirit and love of love, of God and of others

I always enjoyed Mike’s smile, his laugh, his genuine love for people and especially his prayers. He would say to the Lord, “I give you my will, today and everyday”. It was a privilege to be fellow staff members with Mike at Freedom’s Door. He is missed!

  9. I was very blessed to know Mike and to have the privilege of working with him. We shared so many laughs and good long heart talks about life and relationships. Mike always said that the girls in the other office were like his big sisters – always giving him advise and looking out for him. Mike’s heart was so big and he always went the extra, extra mile for everyone. It is with great saddness I write this yet with a grateful heart of anticipation of seeing Mike again in heaven. He always said that Freedom’s Door was the best job he ever had and we loved each other like family. We have missed Mike’s smile, contageous laughter and that crazy hair since he left us here at Freedom’s Door. He brought a flavour that made everything brighter.
My prayers for all of the family. I am so very sorry for your loss.
