ERICKSON, Gladys “Pearl”

January 8, 1924 – Regina, Saskatchewan
October 9, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Pearl Erickson of Calgary, on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at the age of 94 years.

Pearl was a beloved mother, nana, aunt, sister and friend. She was a woman who came in a small package but had a fire cracker inside. She loved her family and was a great homemaker, cook and baker. Pearl had an awesome sense of humor and laughed right along when being teased by her kids and grandchildren. She was always up for a good game of cards and especially enjoyed winning more than her fair share of games. Her sweet tooth would never allow her to turn down dessert, ice cream or chocolate. Pearl was proud to have served two years, 1943 and 1944, in the Royal Women’s Air Force, Bomber Headquarters.

She is survived by her sons Roger Pinel of Victoria, B.C. and Les and daughter-in-law Lindy Pinel of Calgary, AB; daughters and son-in-laws, Dianne and Raink VanderMeer of Armstrong, B.C., and Mary and Glen McKeigan of Calgary, AB; sister Myrtle Spencer of Stourport, England, brother and sister-in-law Ray and Ellie Smart of Grand Prairie, AB; She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pearl was predeceased by her first husband Harold Pinel, in 1997, her second husband Helmer Erickson, in 2006, and her grandson Shawn VanderMeer, in 2008.

A special thank you to the nurses, doctors and staff of Unit 58, at the South Health Campus, for the care and compassion shown to Pearl and family in her last days.

At Pearl’s request, no formal funeral service will be held. The family will be holding a private celebration of life. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Pearl Erickson, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.

Condolence Messages

  1. Robert & Marie Mile :

We wanted to share our condolences with Pearl’s family. It is never easy to have to say goodbye to a loved one. The pain of loss can be unbearable. Our Creator promises us that one day this pain will be just a memory. That beautiful promise can be found at Revelation 21:3,4. Our pain and suffering will be a thing of the past, and we can cry tears of joy as we welcome back the ones that we love so much. We hope you find comfort in those promises.
