ENG, Roger Allan

December 16, 1929 – Vancouver, British Columbia
December 15, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who we dearly love. Roger passed away peacefully one day shy of his 89th birthday.

In his youth, Roger served with the British Columbia Air Cadets. Roger co-owned and operated Food Fare No. 2, a successful family-run retail grocery business for over 20 years. He then undertook a career in real estate with Century 21 and Royal LePage. He actively volunteered with the Family Leisure Centre, Calgary Independent Food Merchants’ Association, Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, Calgary Christian Housing Association, and various other church affiliations. Roger was infamous for his love of baking apple pies, sense of humour, playing mah-jongg and golf, as well as cheering on his beloved Calgary Flames and Stampeders.

Roger will be deeply missed by his wife, Daisy, of 61 years; his children, Debra (Don), Carolyne (Les), Darlene, Richard (Theresa); and grandchildren, Desiree (Mike), Stephanie, Jennifer, Matthew, and Kiandra; and great-granddaughters, Aliyah and Berkley. He is also survived by his siblings, Phyllis, Harvey, Nancy and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Marjorie, Ruby and Clara.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Lutheran Church of Our Saviour (8831 Fairmount Drive SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 1:00 pm with a reception to follow. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes towards COPD Research in Roger’s honour may be made to the The Lung Association, Alberta & NWT, PO Box 4500, Station South, Edmonton, Alberta T6E 6K2, Telephone: 780-488-6819 Ext 2257 or toll free at 1-888-566-5864, www.ab.lung.ca

    To the Eng Family,

Our condolences and our sincerest apologies for not being able to attend the celebration of life for Roger. We heard the news while on vacation in Mexico.

We send our condolences, love, and blessings for your Dad. Roger was a great man with much wisdom, inner strength, and strong values of hard work. He had given me my first job and I had the pleasure of working at the family business while in high school. Roger really cared about people, he had always treated me like family and for that, I am eternally grateful. The Eng family should be proud of the legacy Roger has left behind.

The fondest memory I have of Roger was seeing how strong he was. The only time I could remember seeing him fall was when he missed winning the lottery by one number, shouting his famous phrase for when things go wrong “For crying out loud!!”

God’s blessings to the Eng Family,

    Tony Louie & Family
