EMERSON, Shirley

November 28, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Shirley Emerson passed away peacefully in Calgary at the age of 90 years.

Born in Montreal, QC, Shirley grew up in Winnipeg, MB, where she met her husband Norman. After the boys were born they relocated to Brandon, MB, where they bought a business. While in Brandon, Shirley was heavily involved with the Brandon Allied Arts Centre and St. Matthew’s Anglican Cathedral. In later years they spent a few years in Saskatoon, SK before returning to Winnipeg. One their joys in life were their summer cottages at Pelican Lake, Lake of the Woods, and finally Lake Winnipeg. Their sons and grandchildren will fondly remember those summers forever!

She is survived by her sons, Wesley N. Emerson of Winnipeg, and Russell S. Emerson of Calgary; her grandchildren Jordan R. Emerson, Sean R Emerson (Garrett Birks), Nicole R. Emerson, and their mother Gayle Kadlec; step-grandchildren Ashley Bech-McCord (Joel), Riley Bech (Monique), and their mother Kim Emerson; and great-grandchildren, Adalynn, Janaye, and Amaleigh McCord.

She was predeceased by her husband, Norman R., Emerson, brother, H. Douglas Strachan, and sister-in-law, Eileen Strachan.

After cremation Shirley will be interred at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Winnipeg, MB next to her beloved husband Norman. As per Shirley’s request no formal memorial services will be held.

In living memory of Shirley Emerson, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, CALGARY, AB, T2E 2V6, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
