October 11, 1956 – Scarborough, Ontario
March 8, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta

Jan, beloved wife of Richard Gordon Ellison of Calgary, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2016 at the age of 59 years with her husband by her side, after a short, courageous second battle with cancer.

Jan was born on October 11, 1956 in Scarborough, ON, the only child of Audrey and Harold Brown. She met her husband Rick while both worked at Canadian Pacific Railway. They were married on November 10, 1979 and resided in Whitby, ON before relocating to Calgary in 1996. She enjoyed travelling, music, clothes and dinner in a nice restaurant. Jan was a loving and caring mother whose primary focus was her family. She was thoughtful, kind-hearted, considerate, and always there to lend support to a friend. She was sad to leave a great group of friends and family behind in Ontario, particularly her cousins, Sharon, Lori, Steve and Valerie.

Jan will be dearly missed by her loving husband Rick and their children James and Jennifer and all those who knew her.

A Celebration of Jan’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. with visitation starting at 1:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society.

In living memory of Jan Ellison, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: 403-241-0044.

Condolence from Amy Elwazani on March 11th, 2016 8:36 AM

Our Deepest sympathies go out to the Ellison family during this time. Jan was one of my best friends and one of the most thoughtful people I knew. She was a great mother to her children, a great wife to her husband, and an amazing friend to me. She kept in touch with her friends and checked up on them all the time. She had genuine concern for others well being and to not be able to speak to her again deeply saddens me. I know that she will forever be in our hearts though, and she has left many great memories behind. We love you and will miss you Jan

Love the Elwazani family

To Rick, Jamie and Jenny,
My deepest sympathy goes out to you as you mourn Jan’s passing. I hope all the dear memories you hold in your hearts will help to ease your pain and sadness. I remember Janice as a good school and neighbourhood friend from earlier days. I’ve looked through old photos and see her at my birthday parties. We look about 8 years old. Janice was alway so good at sending letters keeping connections with far away friends. It always came across clearly how important her family was and how proud she was of all of you.
My sincere condolences,
Kathy Maxwell

Condolence from Catherine Beagan on March 14th, 2016 7:52 AM

Rick, Jamie and Jenny,
I wish I could be there today with you to tell you in person how time and distance hasn’t diminished how much I cared for Janice and share what a wonderful person I always thought she was. Janice was so good at staying in touch and remembering birthdays, sharing special moments, sending pictures and updates on the family. Jamie and Jenny – she was so proud of you both, and her love for you came through in all of her writing. We knew each other since Kindergarten and all through school, and she was always a gentle, kind, caring and fun friend to be around. I’m so sorry that she has left this world. Please know that I am thinking of you today.
My deepest sympathies,
Catherine Beagan (nee Allen)
