ELLIOT, Margot Amelia

December 4, 1948 – Ottawa, Ontario
August 30, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Margot Amelia Elliot (nee Pentland), of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at the age of 69 years. With unfailing grit and grace, Margot lived with cancer for the past three years, determined to “squeeze out every moment” that she could.

Compassionate, kind, and a witty sense of humour. Confident and calm. Thoughtful and generous. She showed us how to be brave, to love and care for family and friends, and to not let adversities keep you from the joys of life. She gave us the best of herself and left us with countless beautiful memories. The ultimate entertainer, Margot hosted many memorable gatherings for family and friends. Her attention to detail and small kindnesses were her quiet gift. Margot passed on her love of cooking and baking to her daughter and granddaughter.

Margot is survived by her devoted husband of forty-nine years, Randy Elliot; her loving children, Scott Elliot and Julie Elliot (Danny Laroche); two cherished granddaughters, Claire Elliot and Eva Laroche; and her caring sister, Sandy Pentland (Larry MacDonald). Margot was predeceased by her parents Benson and Rhena (Doupe) Pentland of London ON, and her two brothers, Alwin and Murray Pentland.

Our family – and her role of wife, mother, and grandmother – were most important to Margot and are her precious legacy. How blessed we are to have loved her so much that it is so difficult to say goodbye. We love you.

A celebration of Margot’s life will occur at a later date.

  12. To Sandy & Larry, Randy & family:
Yet another cousin gone to be with our maker. Faith that God knows what is best is what we can hang on to. We can ask all the “why’s” we want but some times there is no obvious answer. Though I’ve not had contact with Margot or her family over many years, your emails Sandy and many of the condolence messages paint a picture of Aunt Rhena whom I so admired. That Margot mirrored her says much for the wonderful person Margot was.
    Your cousin Liz Brooks (Ken)

  14. Dianne Wadsworth :

Dear Randy and family, also Sandy and Larry. So sorry we are not there with you. Luv you guys and our heart breaks for you. My best memories were the summer holidays Margot and Sandy would come and spend time on the farm.
Sharing our chores and adventures. Uncle Ben would drive tractor and aunt Rhena would help mom inthe kitchen. Aunt Rhena was always up early keeping Margot on her diabetic schedule. As time went on I remember Margot with the boy friend “Randy” and red convertible.
It was super when we were able to keep in touch over the internet. Got to see Claire as she grew up and did so many projects with grandma. Take care and remember the good times. Love Dianne

  15. Larry MacDonald :

I have so many great memories of Margot, the consummate entertainer. Whenever Sandy and I showed up at the Elliot’s, we were sure to get fed, including the best apple pie on the planet, and end the night with a friendly game of Bid Euchre, which Randy and I usually won!

We’ll all miss her kindness and generosity, fighting spirit, and out-of-the-blue puns.
