EGAN, Maryon Margaret (nee Petrie, Hutcherson)

October 20, 1926 – Kerrobert, Saskatchewan
April 24, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness and gratitude for a life fully lived that we announce on April 24, 2019 Maryon Margaret Egan of the Wentworth Manor Long Term Care Home, Calgary, passed away peacefully at the age of 92.

Maryon was born in Kerrobert, SK, raised in Winnipeg, MB. She graduated high school when she was just sixteen years old and went to work as a legal secretary in The Pas Manitoba until she was nineteen. Eventually Maryon moved to Alberta where she studied fine arts at the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary. During the time that Maryon was raising her three sons she continued her education and graduated with a Bachelor of Education at the University of Alberta. After graduation she taught elementary school students in Edmonton and then moved to Calgary to teach. Maryon often spoke about how fortunate she was to have been a teacher of so many wonderful boys and girls.

Maryon was an accomplished artist in both oil and china painting and considered herself very fortunate to have had many talented instructors such as: Jack Taylor, Tommy Goodchild, Michelle Zarb and Jonn Einerssen. Many interesting commissions were given to her to paint in oils and china, landscapes of summer homes, portraits, and still life. She was a member of the Calgary community painters and had entered and sold some of her paintings at shows. Her work in the field of art instruction was recognized by the Calgary Public School Board.

In 1973 Maryon married her beloved husband Robert Egan who passed away in 2004. Her life was changed forever. She was not as happy as she once was but continued on as best as possible. Maryon is survived and will be sadly missed by her sons, Jim Petrie (Barb) and Doug Petrie (Bev); her stepson Gary Egan (Kerry), her daughter in-law Yolanda Moffat, her grandchildren, Jeremy Petrie (Jamie), Jennifer Petrie, Trevor Townsend, Shawn Petrie, David Egan and Alison English (Jayden); and her great-grandchildren, Katelynn Petrie, Hailey Petrie, Micheal Petrie and Paisley English.

Maryon was predeceased by her parents, Elton and Grace Hutcherson; her son Alex Petrie, her stepdaughter Debra Egan-Gagne, her brother Bill Hutcherson and her sister Jocelyn Goodman. Most of all Maryon loved her family very much and was proud of them and often said “I have had a good life” May you rest in peace Maryon.
