May 31, 1951 – Preeceville, Saskatchewan
September 20, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Lawrie Edison passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the age of 67 years.

Lawrie was born in 1951, to Joyce and Eddy Edison. He grew up in Saskatchewan and of course became a huge Roughrider fan. An athlete as a high school student, excelling in cross country, running and gymnastics, he became a TV cameraman at nineteen years old. Wanting to pursue this as his passion and career, he took Radio/TV arts at NAIT, which lead to him working at CBC which included such highlights as the 1976 Olympics in Montreal and major work on the sports mobile truck. After that he started shooting for an independent company doing travel documentaries that took him throughout the United States, the Caribbean and South America.

He joined up with the University of Calgary in 1982, where be coincidence, he met his wife to be, Anne. He enjoyed a long and successful career as a cameraman for forty-five years and editor for thirty-two years before retiring in 2014. His career took him to Finland, Switzerland, Germany, Scotland, many US States, Nicaragua, and the Great White North on a number of occasions. He enjoyed golfing and one of his best rounds happened recently in a volcano in Iceland. He loved to cook and enjoyed big family celebrations. Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter were his favorites.

His memory will be carried on by his wife Anne, who was by him for all those years; his amazing daughter, Julie, who proved to be an excellent graphic designer, following, in some respects, his footsteps as a visual creator; and his sister Lynette, whose love and support never wavered. His sense of humor and laid-back demeanor made him a joy to be around and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Lynx Ridge Golf Club (8 Lynx Ridge Blvd, Calgary, AB T3L 2M3 [1]) on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the golf course. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca [2].

I had the privilege of working with Lawrie on several video projects. I appreciated both his professionalism as well as his great sense of humour. Gifted with a great eye and a sure hand behind the camera, he was surely one of the very best. Along with his long-time team partner and friend Fred Fountain, we had a lot of fun and completed some memorable projects. I am so sorry for your loss, Anne and Julie. He spoke of you both often as we were working together. Lawrie was so proud and happy about your own work in the creative sector, Julie.
