DUNCANSON, Margaret “Joan”

September 5, 1926 – September 18, 2018

Joan Duncanson, 92, of Calgary, AB passed peacefully on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 with her best friend and devoted husband of 63 years, Frank, at her side.

Joan McBeth was born in Moosejaw, SK on September 5, 1926 and grew up in Regina. Joan went on to live in Calgary, Vancouver and finally Edmonton where she met Frank Duncanson, a banker with the Canadian Bank of Commerce. They married in Victoria in 1955 and relocated to Toronto as newlyweds. Their family grew as Deb (1957), Marshall (1958) and Ken (1968) joined the clan.

Frank’s career took the family to Ottawa and back and forth between Toronto and Calgary several times which meant they were able to make great friends on both sides of the country. Time passed and the clan continued to expand with the births of Marsh’s beautiful daughters, Caitlin and Heather.

Frank and Joan retired in 1990 and had a marvelous time golfing in Arizona, California and Florida, and travelled to France, Scotland, England and all throughout Canada and the USA. Best of all they were able to spend 27 glorious summers at their beloved cottage on Stoney Lake, Ontario living the good life with dear friends and family.

Joan enjoyed a good laugh and had a wicked sense of humour. She loved to dance, play bridge and scrabble, read books and newspapers (especially Rosamunde Pilcher novels) and was a cross word puzzle whiz. She was a fabulous cook and loved to entertain friends, family, and Frank’s business colleagues and clients. Their annual Christmas season sing song dinner party became legendary.

Joan was an amazing mom, a loving granny, an incredibly thoughtful and caring friend, and a true partner and steadfast support to her husband “Dunc”. Her generosity of spirit, zest for life, and true grit in the face of adversity will live on in those of us she has left behind. She will be missed and remembered with love and admiration.

Please join us for a celebration of Joan’s life at The Calgary Golf & Country Club (1 block west of the intersection of Elbow Drive & 50th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB) on 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9th, 2018. Please note there is a dress code at the club. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, Provincial Office, Sun Life Place, 710, 10123 – 99th Street, Edmonton, AB T5J 3H1 Telephone: 1(866) 412-4222.
