DUKE, Donna Marie

April 22, 1940 – Calgary, Alberta
January 9, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Donna Duke of Calgary passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the age of 78 years.

Donna Marie was born and raised in the City of Calgary. She lived with her parents Arnold and Mary and her brother Harvey. She later met Wayne (Edwin) Duke and they married on October 4, 1958 in Calgary. Within a year they welcomed their first son Dean and then a few years later they welcomed their second son Perry. As a family they would travel around Canada and the United States ensuring that they took many photos to capture the moments they shared together. In 1978 they welcome their third son Marty. As a family they continued on with multiple family adventures including trips to Mexico, Canada, and United States.

While balancing a family, Donna also maintained a full-time job working as a Medical Office Receptionist in Calgary.

Upon her retirement Donna and Wayne would enjoy fishing trips. They would pack up their motorhome and travel around looking for great places to fish. They would often visit Badger Lake looking to land the “Big One”, while never reeling in the big pike they were looking for they would still enjoy being outside surrounded by nature and family.

Later in life Donna enjoyed being surrounded by family including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was able to get out fishing a few last times and made a few trips into British Columbia to experience life to its fullest.

Donna was a truly beautiful and caring soul and the foundation of the family. Donna is survived by her sons, Dean (Netta), Perry (Stacey), Marty; her five grandchildren, Crystal-Lee (Gary), Natasha (Davin), Kyle, Alyssa (Shawn) and Brandon; as well as her brother Harvey and multiple great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Wayne (Edwin) Duke.

The family would like to send their sincerest appreciation to the Nurses and Doctors at Rockyview General Hospital – Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Unit for their care of Donna.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

  2. Dean, Perry, Marty and families:
I am so sorry for your loss, your Mom was a kind, thoughtful woman and a great Mom – she was kind of a saint as you were growing up! Kidding, but Dean and Perry – you boys were a hoot! I’m sorry Mom and I can’t make it to the funeral due to winter conditions but your Mom will be sadly missed by the BC relatives.
