DREHER, Michael Joseph

May 12, 1930 – Kendall, Saskatchewan

April 18, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Michael Joseph Dreher of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully with his family by his bedside on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at the age of 87 years.

Michael was born in Kendall, SK, May 12, 1930. After marrying Anne Lang, he left his job at SaskTel and moved to Calgary to begin a career with AGT (now known as Telus). It is here he planted his roots and raised 7 children. Despite a limited education he was a man of so many accomplishments.  He claimed to be, “A Jack of all Trades and a Master of None.” On his own he acquired the ability to perform electrical work, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and backyard mechanics. Family and friends were constantly reaching out to him for the use of his talents. In addition to these feats, he stepped up to coach baseball – taking his team to provincials and winning an incredible 7 years in a row! He was also an entrepreneur, having successfully owned and operated 3 businesses in Calgary; Dairy Maid & Burger Supreme, Community Hardware, and All Around Maintenance. After he retired he kept active by dancing 2-3 times a week. At the age of 78, Michael was featured in the local Swerve magazine, discussing how he remained young at heart.

He will be lovingly remembered by his 7 children, Patrick (Michele) Dreher, Donna (David) MacLeod, BJ Dreher, Karen Dreher, Michael Dreher Jr., Sharon Misener: his grandchildren, Scott, Kacy, Karly, Jordan, Taylor, Connor, Michael, Lucas, Sam, Dawn, and Kaylee; and his great-grandchildren, Nathan, Michael, Ryan, and Nash.

Michael is survived by his sister, Doreen; brothers, Bert, Leo, Jim.

He was predeceased by his mother, Regina, father, Joseph and two brothers, George and John.
