DICK, Karen Alison

January 10, 1979 – Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
July 22, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Karen Dick, beloved wife of Jason Dick, and mother of Kaitlyn (10) and Hailey (2), passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at the age of 39 years after a short but vicious fight with cancer.

Karen was with us to help others, teach others to be kind and to use our manners. Even her career was focused on fund raising for non-profit agencies including Make A Wish Foundation, Calgary Humane Society and Calgary Counselling Centre. The most important thing to Karen was her family, especially her two girls. They were her pride and joy, and she would do anything for them. She loved hockey season when she was able to watch Hitmen games with her father and children. Karen was also a huge Disney fan and was able to share that joy with her family which blossomed into annual trips to both Florida and California. All it took was a few moments with Karen to know she was a special person.

Besides her loving husband Jason and children Kaitlyn and Hailey, Karen is survived by her grandfather Gerald Senft; parents Brian and Donna Senft; brother and sister-in-law Justin and Emma Senft and children; father and mother-in-law Thomas and Yvonne Dick; brother-in-law David Dick (Kari) and children. She was predeceased by grandfather Hugh Hunter, grandmothers Evelyn Hunter and Cora Senft, and dog Bailey

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 – 325 Manning Rd. N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 2P5 Telephone: (403) 205-3966, email donorservices@cancer.ab.ca or to the Calgary Counselling Centre, #200, 940 – 6 Avenue SW, Calgary, AB T2P 3T1 Telephone: (403) 265 – 4980 or to her children’s education fund.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. Karen used to look after our oldest daughter when she was very small and was so patient and kind. 4 years later, I’m bringing my two daughters to their new day home and I see that Karen is now bringing her daughter Hailey to the same day home! Such a small world but I am so thankful to have gotten the chance to run in to her again.

Please Jay, if you need anything at all don’t hesitate to contact us.

  21. Uncle Brian :

    Dear Jay

I wanted to take this moment to express my condolences. I also wish to take this opportunity to recognize you. If you go back to your wedding reception I trust you will recall the following: when Brian got up to speak he mentioned Karen was a “princess” he further stated that Karen was Donna and His “princess” and he asked that you look after her through life. Brian and Donna made you promise Jay that Karen would always be front and center in your lives together. Jay beyond a shadow you have fulfilled that promise over and over. I will never forget those words that a father bestowed on another and how you Jay took those words to heart. As you raise your girls you too will have the opportunity to bestow those words upon another as your girls should always be front and center. Through the words alone I am so sorry for the loss of Karen. From my family Jamie, Jennifer, Melissa, Jason, Lisa, Adam, Mackenzie, Taylor and I our thoughts will be with you and your family.
