DeRINZY, Linda Joy

June 4, 1947 – Montreal, Quebec
June 2, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Linda Joy DeRinzy (nee Henthorn) passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on June 2, 2019 at the age of 71 years, after a lengthy illness. Thankfully, she had been pain free for the entire duration, but not, unfortunately, without other considerable discomforts.

She was the greatly beloved wife of John Irving DeRinzy, loving mother to Jeffrey Andrew Hartley and Todd Patrick Hartley, cherished sister to Carol Riley, and doting grandmother to Evan and Luke Hartley. Linda was also loving step-mother to John’s children, Kimberly (Jones) of Atlanta, Georgia, USA, Andrea (Broaddus) of Tehachapi, California, USA, John DeRinzy of Texas, USA, and David DeRinzy, of Colorado, USA. She was also proud step-grandmother to their children. She was the proud loving aunt of Peter and Carol Riley’s children, Sean, Colleen, and Kevin.

Linda was born in Montreal, QC, on June 4, 1947. She graduated from Monklins High School in Montreal in 1965. Linda married Ian Hartley, and remained in the Montreal area, where her children were born. They moved to Calgary, AB, Canada in 1976, but eventually separated. Linda married John in 1982. Linda was employed with various companies in Calgary’s oil and gas market as engineering assistant from 1978 to 2004, when she retired. Linda enjoyed card making, and loved keeping up with the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Red Wings, and tennis star Roger Federer. Linda’s most memorable vacations were when she and John visited the Cook Islands in 1984 and Perth, Australia in 2004. She also greatly enjoyed their visit to Boston’s Fenway Park in 2013 to see her Red Sox play and win their division championship. Linda accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of her grandchildren. She will be most remembered for her kindness, gentility, class, style, passion, her engaging sense of humour, and her love for her spouse and all of her family and friends, as well as her ability to suffer through her final days without complaint.

Linda was predeceased by her mother and father, William and Shirley.

The family will have a remembrance and celebration of Linda’s life at a later date.

If friends so desire in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to Alberta Health Care https://secure.calgaryhealthtrust.ca/ccsc. Care of: Calgary Health Trust at (403) 943-0630, specifically for the greatest needs of Rocky View General Hospital Unit 74, where Linda received such good care. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

At this time the family would like to extend a special thank you to Linda’s doctors, and the staff at Rocky View General Hospital Unit 74.

In loving memory of Linda DeRinzy, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE NW, CALGARY, AB T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.

Hello John, I knew Linda first at Dome petroleum in the late 1970s where as I recall she was an engineering admin supervisor. It was interesting to then meet up with her many years later through yourself and Kinsgburys. She was a very pleasant and well balanced woman and I can imagine that you will miss her greatly. Our condolences as you endeavor to move on. regards, Norval and Nora Horner

Tonight when you look up, don’t think of them as stars. Think of them as
Porch lights welcoming your loved one home.

Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Your fond memories and the memories others hold dear of Linda will help you through.

Take care of you John and thoughts of peace to comfort you and all Linda’s loved ones are sent your way.

My sincere condolences to John and the family during this difficult time. My heart aches as I remember my loving and respectful friend of 58 years. Linda and I met as teenagers in Montreal. Our friendship was strong from the start and endured
until the night before her death when she texted to tell me that her “Red Sox” were losing!
Linda was a shining light in my life and I loved her.
Although I am relieved that she no longer suffers, I will greatly miss my ever-faithful friend.

    John,
I am so terribly sorry for your loss. The pain of losing the one we love is sometimes hard to comprehend. I knew you both shared such a great love just by the look on your face and the smile in your eyes each time you spoke of Linda – she was your true love! You were both so very lucky to have shared that with each other.
Evan and I offer you and your family our most heartfelt sympathy. I so wish we could do something to ease the pain. Find strength and comfort in your family, and through your faith and the wonderful memories you have. Sending you and yours healing light and love.

John- we are so very sorry for your loss. Linda was such a wonderful friend to my mom and I always enjoyed seeing you both when you were in town. I know that my mom and Don had such fun with you as couples out together in Las Vegas and enjoyed engaging conversations during visits to Ontario. Our time here and our life here is never promised- it is only a time period in which you hope to live long enough – to be able to see your loved ones flourish, and that everything that you have built and prayed for in your life come to fruition.

I have known this woman since I was 8 years old – I spoke on the phone with her only last night. Today, I found out that she had passed away peacefully in her sleep. She had been very ill for at least three years. Rest well Linda DeRinzy. I thank you for taking care of my father, and for unconditionally loving him.

May God lift you up in his love and light.
