DEMCHUK, William

April 16, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Bill, beloved husband of Sandra Demchuk (nee Rheault) of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Sarcee Hospice, on April 16, 2019 at the age of 83 years.

Bill was born at home on the farm near Burgis Corner, Saskatchewan on August 25, 1935. He attended Poplar Springs School near the farm. He moved to Calgary in the early 60’s. He started as a grocery clerk at Safeway and worked his way to the position of Store Manager over a period of 34 years.

In 1962, Bill met a slim dark haired beauty named Sandra. Romance blossomed into marriage in 1966. Bill and Sandra were happily married for over fifty-two years.

Bill enjoyed his 24 years of retirement spending summers at his beloved Trout Lake, and winters in Venture Out, Mesa Arizona. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, and participating in the activities in the park. Bill accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of his family, homes and cars. Bill’s most memorable vacations were Hawaii, Mexico and cruising.

Besides his loving wife, Bill is survived by his daughters, Valerie Sheppard (Bud), and Arlene Komperdo (Loren); grandchildren, Heidi Tokle (Scott), Chelsea Sheppard (Brandon Odell); Daniel Sheppard, Owen Komperdo (Bailey),and Carley Komperdo; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Archer Tokle, and Onyx and Roxzyn Odell. Bill is also survived by sisters, Jeane Foss, Alice Pura (Eugene), and Eileen Van Alstyne (Rob); sister-in-law Joanne Harrington (John), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Bill was predeceased by his dear infant daughter Phyllis Ann Demchuk, his parents Paul and Annie Demchuk, an infant sister, Jennie; his oldest sister, Florence Staigh; two brothers-in-law Ken Springer and Elwood Foss; sister-in-law Cathy Rheault; nephew Jason Killick; and his parents-in-law Ernie and Phyllis Rheault.

If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Bill’s name.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Saturday, April, 27, 2019 at start time 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
