DEHAAN-HOLSCHER, Francis Gerke

May 20, 1932 – Groningen, Holland
August 22, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Francis Dehaan-Holscher of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the age of 86 years.

Friends and family will fondly remember Francis for her positive energy and warm and friendly personality. She moved to Canada in 1958, settling in Vancouver, BC to be near her sister. Her young family moved to Banff, AB in 1969 and she became involved in several successful businesses in Banff, Yoho, and Kootenay National Parks. She moved to Calgary, AB in 1997 to enjoy big city life and to add to her growing circle of friends. She had an adventurous spirit and had a habit of jumping into a car or airplane and going somewhere just for the fun of it. She will be sorely missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Francis is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Perry Dixon; her two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Holscher and Cindy Munn and Sean and Kari Meggs; her brother and sister-in-law Christian and Pauli DeHaan and their families.

A Celebration of Francis’ Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

Thank you to all the wonderful staff at the Holy Cross Manor in Evanston for the excellent care and compassion they provided Francis in her final months.

In living memory of Francis Dehaan-Holscher, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. CALGARY, AB, T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.

  1. Mary Arbique Vogel :

Dear Holscher family – my deepest condolences go out to you at this time of grieving such a fine lady. I worked at Emerald Lake in 1975 when Francis & Bob ran the hotel. To this day I’m not sure how they put up with the comings and goings of the staff. Francis was a master at making sure everything ran like clockwork even if it meant the cook tearing off to Lake Louise to pick up an extra tenderloin due to a unexpected large party of guests arriving. Many years later I stopped by Kootenay Park Lodge to visit when she and Paul were running the mountainside destination. As a matter of fact our family has always called that spot “the Holscher place.” I have many more memories of Francis, she was a fine lady indeed.

    Warmly,
    Mary Arbique Vogel
