DAVIS, Joan Gwendolyn (nee Anderson)

January 11, 1927 – July 28, 2017

Joan beloved wife of the late Clarence Davis of Calgary, AB, passed away on July 28, 2017 at the age of 90 years.

Joan’s parents, Cora (Campbell) and Anton Anderson married in 1926, and lived in Endiang. They moved to Delia in 1927 after Joan’s birth on January 11 in Hanna; and spent the next 15 years in the Hand Hills area of Central Alberta. In 1929 she was joined by her younger sister Helen. The family finally settled in southern Alberta in 1942 – initially in Shepard, then Calgary where she graduated from the old Central High School in 1949. Joan married Clarence Davis in Calgary on June 25, 1954. They met while Clarence was living in the house with boarders, run by her mother Cora. Together they raised their children in Calgary and Edmonton. Joan was known for her sense and humour and was a proud and devoted grandmother.

Joan was an active member of the Southern Alberta Pioneers and their
Descendants (SAP&D) as past president and historian, the Chinook Historical Society, Eastern Star (past worth matron), and Scarboro United Church. She and Clarence spent many happy years volunteering for the SAP&D and they shared their avid interest in Alberta history.

Joan worked for the Alberta Government (Alberta Transportation and the Research Council) in Edmonton until she and Clarence retired, and returned to Calgary in 1993.

Joan is survived by her son Glenn; daughter Ann (Stephen); and grandchildren Madison and Alexander. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence and sister Helen White.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Scarboro United Church (134 Scarboro Ave SW, Calgary), on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 2:00p.m. Reception to follow at the church. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.

In living memory of Joan Davis, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: 403-241-0044.

So sorry for your loss. I know you will all miss her. I can still see Joan and Clarence at some of the Smith’s campouts. I laugh that they came and “relaxed” with that rowdy bunch.
