Condolence Messages

  1. My sympathies go to Alun’s family on his recent passing. Alun and I had many things in common – both born Welsh and Welsh speaking, both graduates of the University of Wales (UC Bangor and UC Swansea respectively), both worked as professional engineers and both joined related companies working in Montreal where Alun and I first met, but very briefly, in 1974.
We met for the second time, again briefly, so many years later after we had both moved to Calgary – and after we had both retired. That second meeting was coincidental when Alun, and a couple of ex-colleagues, were instrumental in arranging an annual Christmas get-together of associated Monenco company employees at a local hotel. Sadly, the last of those get-togethers happened last November!
Regrettably also, despite our association with the Calgary Welsh Society (which I joined in 1976 upon my arrival in Calgary) I don’t believe we ever met at any of its functions. I am aware that Alun’s wife had suffered a severe illness which demanded so much of his time and which resulted in their inability to attend Society functions!
I will be able to attend the Crowfoot funeral service on January 25th but due to a prior commitment will be unable to attend the planned reception!
Again, sincere sympathies are extended to Alun’s family!

  3. It is always sad when the news comes to inform you that a friend or acquaintance
    passes away,
when we hear the news invariably it will stimulate many fond memories , I personally
recall many fond memories of golf that I played with Alun Mike & David.
Alun was a true straight shooter not just with a golf ball but also in general conversation, it was a true privilege to know him

My condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Davies, who first interviewed and hired me in August 1975 and was for the initial years my understanding and helpful Chief Electrical Engineer at Montreal Engineering Company (MECo), Place Bonaventure in Montreal, thus facilitating my integration in my new job and in this for me new country. May his soul rest in peace.

  5. Al Davies was my boss while I was working in Place Bonaventure Mtl with Monenco. Great guy with a sense of dedication, fair deal and work ethics. Missed seeing him since his departure for Calgary. My sincere condolences to Alun’s family members, especially to Gareth (his son) with whom I worked while in Jamaica 1975/76.

  6. Rhian & Peter & the Family

I first met Uncle Alun in 2007, not in person but through cyberspace. Since then we both enjoyed getting to know each other and our families through regular emails. I have learnt more about our family history from Alun than anyone else and he enjoyed hearing about his homeland, Wales, from me.
We send our sincere condolences to all of you from the Roberts side of the Davies family at Porthmadog, North Wales.

  9. My heartfelt condolences to Keith whom I knew, and to the rest of the family. Alun was chief electrical when in 1973 I was about to go with my family to Jamaica on one of Montreal Engineering’s projects when he called me into his office to tell me our departure the next morning and transfer was cancelled on account of a riot that had involved our staff in Kingston. Another year went by when he bid me farewell in earnest for this time we were really off to our newly opened office in Tehran. It was not until 1986 while on a mission for the Asian Development Bank before I met Alun again when he was stationed in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. We had lunch and this proved the last time I saw Alun except for a brief hello a few years later while visiting the Calgary office. Onno Kruller

  10. On behalf of the Neville family of Montreal, and earlier, as Beloeil neighbours, please accept our sincere sympathies, and particularly those of Jackie. She sends her condolences to the whole Davies clan, and especially to Edna, whom she holds as a life-long friend. For my part, I remember caddying for Alun – he was a master waggler, and a favourite colleague and companion of Dad’s.
