DAVIDSON, Jean Regina “Jeanie”

February 25, 1950 – Amsterdam, Netherlands
August 4, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

Jeanie Davidson of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at the age of 65 years at Rockyview Hospital.

Jeanie is survived by her son James C. S. Davidson (Jamie); mother Shirley Stott; brother Hans Koopmans; sister Ann Cartwright; she also leaves behind her nieces Anna Price & Sonya Price and nephew Bill Price who were dear to her. She was predeceased by her younger brother John Koopmans who passed away early last year; and beloved ex-husband James Bruce Davidson who passed away in 1991.

Jeanie had a passion for music, languages, and flying. She spoke several languages including English, French, Spanish, Dutch and some German. Jeanie was very adept at languages and enjoyed immersing herself in the cultures of those languages. She played the guitar, saxophone and had a piano which she had hoped to learn to play. A love of music and languages was a big part of her life. It was during her brief time in Edmonton that her love of flying began and she earned her student pilot license.

Jeanie had a great affection for animals but her dog Brandy held a special place in her heart. She had many dogs and cats throughout her life and would often take on abandoned older cats and troubled dogs.

The family would like to thank the Rockyview palliative team that brought her comfort in her final days, the Tom Baker Centre in Calgary and BC Cancer Agency in Kelowna that gave her a chance to fight, and Glenmore Manor which enabled her to come home.

“In tears we saw you sinking
We watched you fade away
Our hearts were almost broken
You fought so hard to stay.
But when we saw you sleeping
So peaceful and free from pain
We could not wish you back
To suffer that again.
Two tired eyes are sleeping
Two willing hands are still
For one who suffered far too much
Is resting in God’s will.
You never said goodbye to us
For perhaps it’s just as well
We never could have said goodbye
To one we loved so well”

If Jeanie’s life could be summed up in only three words, it would be family, passion, and to endure.
Family – nothing meant more to her then her closest family, including her many nieces and nephews.
Passion – for the love of languages and music as she always strove to learn in both areas. Her love of animals was apparent as she was never more than a year without a pet, be it dog or cat, over the last 40 years.
To endure – in spite of painful health struggles over the years. She battled with cancer, as well as chronic back pain. Her back issues had confined her to a wheel chair for a short time but she would not accept that and managed with pain therapy to walk again. She handled pain and suffering with a determination not to be believed.

Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
