November 22, 1922 – Neepawa, Manitoba
September 22, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Glen Dalton of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the age of 95 years. Born in Neepawa, MB, Glen was raised in Saskatoon and Regina. When he was only 18, Glen joined the Royal Canadian Navy where he attained the rank of Lieutenant as a signalman during World War II. Honorably discharged in 1946 after the war, Glen worked in Vancouver before moving to Calgary in 1951. There he met the love of his life while working for James Cleave Agencies; Doris and Glen were married in 1953. Glen later worked for Reed Shaw Stenhouse before joining Husky Oil in 1963 as their risk manager where he worked until his retirement in 1982. Glen loved the outdoors and spent his retirement hiking and cross-country skiing with Skrastins Outdoor Club, which he enjoyed until he was 87 years young.

Glen spent his life devoted to his family. He exemplified and lived a faithful Christian life as an example for his family and maintained his strong faith until his last breath. Throughout his life he held many positions within the church and was always available to volunteer.
When the kids were young, summers were spent camping, fishing and hiking with the family, and winters never slowed him down. He could always outskate the kids, and usually outrun them in his “stilted” sprinting form. Endless hours were spent skating and tobogganing with the family, until Darrell and Deb discovered horses. Then, he became the best “groom” available. Always interested in what his kids were doing, he was always there. Later he enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their activities whether it was karate, hockey, dance or riding horses. He would always be there with his camera around his neck.

Glen was involved with the Kiwanis Club for many years, and held many positions with them, most notably as the Chairman of the Scholarship Committee for the annual Kiwanis music festival. As well, he was closely involved with the Naval Officers Association and the Navy League Cadets. A loyal attendee at the annual Trafalgar Ball, Glen also never missed attending a ceremony for the Battle of the Atlantic until he was 93.

Glen leaves a big hole in the lives of many people. He will be truly missed.

Special thanks to the staff of the Agape Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate care of Glen during his final weeks.

Glen leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Doris; his son, Darrell (Lorri); his daughter, Debbie Helland (Chris). He will also be remembered by his grandchildren, Adam, Liam, Shelby, Brett, Luke, Hayley, Julia; and great-grandchildren, Mio, Evelyn and Oliver. Glen was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Anne, and his brother, Gordon.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB [1]) on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. reception to follow at the funeral home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

Anyone wishing to donate in Glen’s memory are encouraged to consider Agape Hospice of Calgary or the Navy League of Canada, Calgary Branch.
