September 1, 1923 – Claresholm, Alberta
May 7, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Norman Dahl, beloved husband of Donna Dahl (nee Burt) of Calgary, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the presence of his loving family on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at the age of 95 years.

Norm was born in Claresholm, Alberta on September 1st, 1923 and moved to Calgary in the early 1970s. He was always fiercely proud that his family immigrated to Canada from Norway, often making Lefse and Fattigman for his children and grandchildren.

Norm graduated from Olds College and later the Western College of Auctioneering in 1959, but ultimately stayed close to home in order to care for his ailing mother until her passing.

Norm loved to dance, and, at an event hosted by the Swinging Singles Square Dancing Club, he met Donna Burt. They married on October 17th, 1975 and their three children were Norm’s entire world. Donna and Norm built their Midnapore home together where he liked nothing more than to feed the squirrels, birds and deer who rambled out of Fish Creek Park, a tradition he introduced to his beloved granddaughters.

Norm’s fondness for animals was outdone only by his love of laughter and family. His sense of humor was said to enter the room before he did. Where John Wayne (one of his idols) would say that a man should, “Talk low, talk slow and [not] say too much,” Norm tended to enthusiastically speak to anyone and everyone about anything and everything. His grandchildren would often be found on his lap listening to his stories.

Besides his loving wife, Donna, Norman is survived by his Children and their families, Jamie Dahl (Teresa), Madison, and Natasha; Randy Dahl; and Coralee Dahl (Jeff), Olivia, and Scarlett; and his sisters, Joan and Jean; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Norman was predeceased by his siblings Lenora, Manfred, Mildred, Marion, Irene, Ray and Myron.

Condolences for the family of “DAHL, Norman Arden”

Condolence from Cindy Dahl Scott on May 16th, 2019 1:41 PM

And that’s how I remember my Uncle Norm. A gentle and fun loving man with a pure heart and soul. He always had time for us when we were young kids and I know he loved us. He was always relaxed, funny, happy and positive and so amusing to talk to. I thought it was very brave of him to leave his longtime farm home and move to Calgary in the 1970’s. He got a good job, perfect for him, then he met and married Donna and had children of his own and was rewarded in that for the dedication he gave to my Gramma Dahl and their farm. If anyone deserved to live and love so happily until he was 95 years old it was Uncle Norm ♥️ I know he will truly Rest In Peace. I send my love and condolences to Donna, Jamie, Randy, Coralee and their families at this time. They truly had the best of the best.

Uncle Norm was a special man, with a sense of humour that kept us in laughter any time we were in his company. My early memories as a young child are of him playing and chasing us around, and the relentless teasing. He would get a gleam in his eye and you knew something hilarious was about to happen. I am so thankful I got to visit with him several times the past few years. He brought much happiness to our family over the years. I will miss you, Uncle, and am thankful for the crazy nickname you gave me when I was little, Chi Chi Faye. Uncle Norm was proud of his Norwegian heritage, and of his family. My children love their Viking heritage. Rest in Peace, dear Uncle. Love to Donna, Jamie, Randy, Coralee and families. I hope happy memories will bring you comfort.
