Johnny and I have only loving thoughts for Robin, my dear bother. It was hard to hear Robin say the words that Jean had passed away. Jean was a very special lady who touched our hearts and was part of our daily conversations. She will still be part of that, such was the impact of her personality, which was full of love, warmth and energy. She loved Robin so much it was tangible, even though at times he could be challenging.
Robin, our hearts are broken for your loss.
We wish you love and peace at this time.

I am so saddened to hear of Mrs. Crawford’s passing. I had the privilege of being a student of hers in the early 90’s at St. Helena Junior High. My husband and brothers were also students of hers. She was a true expert in her field. I will never forget her – tough yet kind, much like my own teaching style today, nearly 30 years later. Rest in peace.

  20. I was saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Crawford. I am one of large group of former students who benefited from having her as a teacher. She was an inspiration to all who had the pleasure to know her. Jean came to my classroom once at the school where she had taught me. We hadn’t seen each other for 20+ years yet she not only recognized me but several of my students (who were children of her former students). She is a treasure that will be missed.

It is also very appropriate that this condolence page requires answering a math problem before submission.

A loss to all who’s lives she touched. “A good teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others.” Author Unknown
Jean was not just a candle she was a blazing sun who lead the way for countless students.
I had the joy of knowing Jean and learning from her, and my mother had the joy of knowing her as a colleague and friend. She will be greatly missed.

  24. My sincere condolences to Mrs Crawford’s family. I was one of the very fortunate students to be in her math class for two different years in the late 70’s. She was amazing teacher and person. For many years I went back to say hi and looked forward to the possibility of seeing her at convention. She always had time for her students. We marvelled at her beautiful long hair and she was always “put together “. Her impact on mine and others will be forever. My prayers that she is enjoying all the blessings of heaven.

    Robin,
I felt a sudden shock go through me when I heard the news of Mrs. Crawford’s passing. I was a student of hers at St. Helena from 79-81. She was a straight shooter and exceptional teacher who new her Math inside out. It always amazed me how she always knew what was going on and no one could pull the wool over her eyes. Jean was an incredible role model for girls my age as she said what she thought and she was strong, beautiful and intelligent. When I think of my style of teaching it has a little bit of Jean in it. The saying, “ to teach is to touch a life forever” definitely holds true for Mrs. Crawford. Thank you for touching my life and I will remember you forever.

Both my parents had the privilege of working with Jean at St. Helena’s, my father as a fellow teacher and my mother, later, as a teacher aide. She became not only a co-worker, but a valued friend. They always spoke so highly of Jean – her incredible dedication to her work, inspiration to her students, her warmth and energy and her ability to light up a room with her laughter. She will remain in the hearts of the many she touched.
Robin, I extend my heartfelt empathy to you in the loss of your beloved soul-mate and wish you strength in the days ahead.

    Dear Mr Crawford & Family

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Mrs. Crawford’s sudden passing. I was extremely fortunate to have had her as my Homeroom and Math Teacher for all of my wonderful and formative years at St Helena Jr High. Not only was she my favorite teacher, she also graciously mentored me right through my University years. Mrs. Crawford was an outstanding educator and her legacy will continue with the generations of young minds that she inspired. I am so grateful to her for her guidance, leadership, encouragement and friendship. I greatly respected her and it was an honor and a privilege to have known her and to have been taught by her.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this very difficult time. Rest in Peace Mrs. C. You are among the Angels now. XO

As the youngest of a family of 6 to be taught by Mrs Crawford at St Helena, I have her math classroom etched in my memory. Mrs Ellen Johansen tucked away in the corner keeping the books while Mr. Jack Blinch and later Mr Chiaccia, taught on the other side of the curtain partition. Though we did not understand it then, Jean’s stern voice and yet soft touch was our guiding light through some critically formative years. Thank you Jean for being there for us! Her memory will live on in every person she touched.

  37. Jean was a special person. She was my mentor. Many of my life’s decision were based on Jeans advice and wisdom. She introduced me to so much. I live today in Laguna Beach, because Jean and Robin exposed me to California. I wrote a book, even thou I struggled in school and was told by a counselor, I would be a construction worker. Jean was direct with me, and never held back if I was going in the wrong direction. My condolences to Jeans entire family. We lost someone that had made a positive difference to so many people.
