COTTRELL, Ronald

March 16, 1929 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
April 18, 2018 – Airdrie, Alberta

It is with deep sadness that we announce Ronald Cottrell, beloved husband of Dolores of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the age of 89 years.

Ronald was born on March 16, 1929 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and grew up on a farm east of MacDowall. He met the love of his life, Dolores Thorimbert while both working at Woolworths in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. They dated for several years then married on April 6, 1953. Ronald worked at Canada Post starting in Prince Albert as a mail sorter. He moved his family to Calgary in 1967 where he continued working for a total of 34 years, retiring as Manager of City Services which included the management of 1,250 sub post offices, all letter carriers and 150 trucks. Upon retirement Ron pursued his love of carpentry, built two homes and spent many days working with his children lending a helping hand. Ronald will be remembered for his love of nature, his thirst for knowledge, his work ethic, strong moral compass but above all his devotion to his wife and family.

Words cannot express our gratitude to the staff at Bethany Airdrie, Crocus Wing where Ronald spent the last few years of his life. We thank them for their exceptional care, their humanity and loving kindness to both Ron and his wife Dolores.

He leaves to lovingly remember, Dolores, his wife of 65 years, his daughter Holly Davidson of Calgary, his son Doug (Denise) Cottrell of Airdrie, his daughter Heather (David) Jarmain of Rockyview County; nine grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren as well as his sister Joy Quiring.

Ronald was predeceased by his parents James and Mary Cottrell, brother Ted Cottrell, sister Joan Cooney, sister Ada Davey and grandson Scott Cottrell.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home.
