COOPER, Sharon Ann

February 24, 1954 – High River, Alberta
January 12, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

There are no words to adequately express the deep sorrow and heartache felt by the family of Sharon Cooper in announcing her unexpected passing on Thursday, January 12, 2017.

Cherished and adored by her husband Ross Willison, and deeply loved by her daughters Shauna Lloyd (Alex) and Jennifer Kinsman (Ryan) and her seven beautiful grandchildren: Taylor, Madison, Cooper, Chloe, Payton, Charlotte and Ella, “Grannie”, as she was affectionately known, was the glue that kept us all strong and ensured that family traditions continued. She was a devoted daughter to her mother Gladys Cooper of High River and a caring sister to her brothers Gary (Donna Lynn), Richard (Debra) and Wade (Kim). She enjoyed a special relationship with her mother-in-law Helen Willison of Calgary, her sister-in-laws and was a loving and respected Auntie to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Lawrence Cooper of High River and her father-in-law, Jack Willison of Calgary.

Upon graduation in 1971 from Senator Riley High School in High River, a time that was marked by academic and athletic achievement and the forging of long-term friendships with her “HR” girls, Sharon set out to find a career that would offer her an opportunity to be challenged and move to positions of increased responsibility. She found that when she was offered an entry position in the Land Department of Ashland Oil Company in 1976. With the help of generous mentors, she rose to the position of Petroleum Landman and eventually to management positions with a number of oil & gas companies over the years. She was an active member of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen and tirelessly devoted her time to the Association Newsletter, educational and conference committees, as well as numerous social activities. In recognition of her efforts, she was accorded a CAPL Award of Merit. Most recently, she had moved to an emerging public company in the position of Land Manager, Contracts & Administration, where she looked forward to finishing out her career and moving on to a retirement filled with golf and travel with her husband Ross, more time spent with her grandchildren and of course continuing to indulge in her passion for quilting.

A Celebration of Sharon’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E.) in the Reception Centre on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 2:00–4:30 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made on Sharon’s behalf directly to the Mustard Seed Street Ministry, 102 – 11 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 0X5 Telephone: (403) 269-1319, www.theseed.ca. In living memory of Sharon Cooper, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: 403-256-9575.

  12. I only knew Sharon for 7 months but it felt like I’d known her a lifetime! She had that way with people and bonded with those around her very easily. She was the kindest, most honest and loving person I’ve met in a long while. She was very proud to be a mom, a grannie and a wife, and I know she filled those roles with everything she had. I’m so happy that I got to know her, have her as a mentor and most importantly call her a great friend. This is a terrible shock to everyone. She will be so missed by everyone that she touched in her life. My heart felt condolences to Ross, Shauna and Jennifer and their extended family.

  39. I’m so sorry for your loss. I worked with Sharon at Anderson Energy and really enjoyed her company. On a professional level she was the best Landman I ever worked with when it came to translating “Land” into “Accounting” — she helped me to really understand what exactly needed to be done. On a personal level she was just so consistently nice to be around. Always friendly, always had time for people, I already missed working with her and I’m so very, very sorry to hear that she’s passed.
