COOPER, Douglas Frederick

January 16, 1929 – Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
January 25, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Doug Cooper, beloved husband of Beatrice Cooper of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the age of 89 years.

Doug served with the 2nd Armed Regiment of the Lord Strathcona Horse from April 23, 1948 until April 22, 1956 and attained the rank of Corporal. During this time he served in Korea from May 14, 1952 to June 7, 1953 and received the United Nations Service Medal and the Korea Medal.

Upon his return to civilian life he worked as a heavy duty mechanic until he retired. Doug spent many years as a member of the Legion and was proactive with support of the museum of the regiments in Calgary he was also an advocate speaker on Remembrance Day for schools and was involved in many other various events.

Doug was well known for his spontaneous humor, generous spirt and his love of golf. He will be loved and miss by many.

Doug is survived by his wife Beatrice, daughter Charlotte Cooper, sister Nola Rintoul, step daughter Arlene Nerrie, step son Rey Erickson, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Doug was predeceased by his first wife Barbara, brother James and brother-in-law Bob Rintoul.

    With fond memories of my Uncle Doug, especially his part, along with my father, in introducing me to the endless wonder and joys to be found in the Great Outdoors.. Experienced first by way of rough, often dusty or muddy backroads on the Eastern Slopes of the Rockies.. hiking and trout fishing the streams and beaver ponds.. the close comraderie around firepit evenings, pan-fried catch, and ‘cowboy’ coffee, whilst ‘roughing it’ out of simple DIY ‘lean-to’ shelter. Rest in Peace, thank you, good Uncle 🙂
