COOPER, Bernard Reginald

Sgt. Bernard Reginald Cooper of Calgary passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 at a very young 100 years and 8 months, peacefully with his granddaughter Michelle and daughter Gael by his side.

He was a man who truly lived life to the fullest. An original member of the First Special Service Force (The Devils Brigade), he was a recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal of Honour along with his unit, and knighted by France. He was a carpenter, an inventor, a builder, an artist, an author, a lover of nature, adventure and travel. He was a true renaissance man.

He was a husband, a grandpa and a dad. He is survived by his two daughters, five grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive N.E., Calgary, AB) on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary, #1, 4539 – 6th Street N.W., Calgary, AB  T2E 4V7, Telephone: 403-265-6304 http://www.calgarypoppyfund.com, a cause close to his heart.

The family would like to request that no children under the age of 12 years attend the service.
