COOK, Doreen May (Paus)

May 19, 1935 – Invermay, Saskatchewan
January 28, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Doreen Cook of Calgary, AB passed away on January 28, 2019 at the age of 83 years.

Doreen grew up on a farm in Invermay, SK, where she loved being the designated family ironer, especially for her brother. She moved to Saskatoon, SK to attend the Saskatoon School of Business where she received awards for fast and accurate typing. She moved to Regina for a short time before moving to Calgary where she enjoyed her time there spent living in an apartment building with other Oil and Gas secretaries watching Elvis on television and listening to records.

She married her loving husband Norman in June 1965. They lived in Lloydminster, where she took pride in her garden, and Calgary where she continued to work as a secretary in the Oil and Gas industry, working with Landmen.

Doreen loved traveling to Seattle, Washington, and had fond memories of the ocean. One of her favourite trips was a family holiday to Niagara Falls with her son Jason, and she kept photo keepsakes on display for many years. She loved music (especially Elvis), movies, reading mysteries (especially Ruth Rendell), Coronation Street and True Crime, puzzles, gardening and walks in fresh air. She adored animals and loved her many cats and dogs she had over the years. Doreen was a member of Eastern Star, which she attended with her sister Elsie. She liked to donate her time to multiple organizations canvassing, and she was a survivor of Breast Cancer and multiple hip replacements.

If asked, Doreen would say her greatest achievement would be her son and his family. Her granddaughter Acasia was truly her little partner in crime, shopping partner, and her dedicated shared restaurant booth sitter. Doreen was always loving and supporting to all that met her, and she will truly be missed by all.

Doreen is survived by her son Jason, daughter-in-law Kimberly, and her granddaughter Acasia Valentine. She is also survived by her brother Leslie Paus (Dorothy); nieces and nephews, Dianne, Dale, Deborah (Earl), Brian (Julie); and great-nieces and nephews, Katrina, Chantal, Jamie, Erin, Alexander, Nicholas, Katherine, Kyle, Sean, and Michelle. Doreen was predeceased by her parents Lottie and Foster Paus, husband Norman Cook, her sister Elsie, brother-in-law Leonard, and her nephew Terry. Doreen will also be lovingly missed by Wayne and Diane, Nicole and Chris, Evangeline, Alexandra and Isabella, Scott, Phoebe and Madeline.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 2:00p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
