COIA, Cynthia “Jean”

January 8, 1948 – Shrewsbury, England
April 25, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Cynthia “Jean” Coia, beloved wife of Dave Coia of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the age of 70 years.

After high school, Jean entered the Royal Air Force hoping to see the world. She was assigned to the communications department but only stayed one year, because she met Dave and they got married. Though she left the R.A.F., she continued to work for the British government as a ‘Bletchley Girl’ in the Diplomatic Wireless Service (DWS).

In 1970, Dave and Jean moved to Calgary, where Jean began working for the Qualico Group (new home builders). When Qualico created a new division called Broadview Homes, Jean became the main administrative support. She worked for the company twenty-five years.

Jean was an animal lover. She was very fond of her dogs Panda and Cody and as well as her Horse, Image. Quite often Jean and Image would ride through the Porcupine Hills and finish the day by the campfire with good food and friends. Another prominent passion of Jean’s was quilting. She was an active, long-time member of the Piecemakers Quilting Guild. She was an incredibly talented and inspirational quilter. Jean loved to cook and bake and share the spoils with her friends and neighbours. As regularly as possible, Dave and Jean would travel to Naramata, BC to relax and tour the wine country. Jean will be sorely missed by each and every one who knew her.

Besides her loving husband, Jean is survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Gerry, Val and Sandy and Dawn and Allen.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Condolences may be forwarded through

Condolence Messages

  1. Truly sorry to hear this sad news about Jean’s passing. She was the much loved wife of my Uncle David and although I hadn’t seen her for many years I recall her as being a good person with a great sense of fun. I’m relieved that she is no longer suffering. May she rest in peace.
