It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Norma Carrow (nee Wright) at the age of 90.
Born in Calgary to George Thomas and Florence Esther (nee Davidson) Wright, Norma attended Connaught Elementary and Western Canada High School. While in high school, Norma was an active member of the Sat-Teen club and worked at the Hudson’s Bay Company where she was a leader in the Bay Fashion Council. After graduation, while employed at the Fred Mannix Co., she met her future husband, Jimmie, on a blind date and they were married in 1950. Norma and Jimmie moved to the burgeoning oil town of Edson, AB, before being transferred to the southern United States, where their first two daughters were born. After years of travelling while Jimmie worked for GSI, they were happy to return to Calgary, where they chose to put down roots and were blessed with two more daughters. While living in the new community of Meadowlark Park, Norma was a vital member of the Community Association, as well as a busy member and volunteer for Calgary Oil Wives, where she was elected president. A devoted bridge player, she never missed an opportunity to shuffle the deck. She loved being a docent at the Glenbow Museum where she engaged young students with her energetic and interactive presentations. Following a health setback, Norma moved to Trinity Lodge, where she was a member of the Welcoming and Residents Committees. Norma will be remembered as warm, outgoing and gracious. She loved to entertain and was an outstanding cook – a talent she passed on to her four daughters (thanks Mom!).
Norma will be greatly missed by her daughters Lynne Rose (David), Diane Pulleyblank (Bill) and Laurel Carrow. She is remembered with love by her grandchildren Geordie Rose, Morgan Pulleyblank (Erin Armstrong), and Oliver Pulleyblank (Meera Bennett); great-grandchildren Devon and Emily Pulleyblank and numerous nephews and nieces
Predeceased by Jimmie in 2012; her beloved daughter Nancy Carrow in 2009; and her adored granddaughter Whitney Poffenroth in 2000.
Celebration of a wonderful life will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (703 Heritage Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on August 25, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. Please note the time of the service has changed from 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
