CAREY, Francis “Frank”

September 12, 1947 – Calgary, Alberta

April 29, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Frank Carey of Calgary, AB, beloved husband of Anita, passed away with family by his side on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at the age of 70 years.

Frank possessed a warm smile and humble heart cherished by all who knew him. His greatest treasure was his family; he leaves them all the gift of living by example, proof that anything can be accomplished through determination, commitment and hard work.

These same qualities helped Frank and his teammates take Wallace & Carey from a small southern Alberta business to Canada’s largest independent wholesale distributor that prides itself on its family-focused approach. Some of Frank’s happiest moments were spent surrounded by family and friends, sitting on the back deck enjoying the view. He would often say, “Who has more fun than us?”, a question to which the fitting answer was, “No one!”.

Frank’s down-to-earth style and love of mischief left a lasting impression on so many, and he is deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Frank is survived by his wife Anita, five children and their families; Michael (Emma), Neil (Julie), Patrick (Brandy) Andi (Jay), Daniel, and Frank’s sister, Barb (Buzz Cavanaugh), along with all of Frank’s extended family. His nine beautiful grandchildren brought so much joy and pride into his life and they continue to live his legacy; Lucy, Benjamin, Gabriel, Cole, Charlotte, Riley, Caleb, Atticus and London.

Close family and friends wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 11, 2018, from 7 to 8 p.m.

A celebration of life will be held, most appropriately, in Frank’s back yard on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 1 p.m.

Parking is unavailable at the home. Well-wishers are encouraged to arrive by taxi or use the shuttle service provided by McInnis and Holloway from Rock Pointe Church, Bearspaw (255024 Lochend Rd, Calgary, AB, T3L 2R2) between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. We hope you can join us in a toast to Frank.

Those wishing to forward written condolences or a short video message with their memories of Frank can do so through the form below.

If friends or families so desire, memorial tributes in honour of Frank can be made directly to the Canadian Legacy Project, Suite 900, 2424 – 4th Street SW Calgary, AB, T3S 2T4, Telephone 403-543-4670, www.canadianlegacy.org

In living memory of Frank Carey, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. CALGARY, AB, T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.

We are deeply saddened by the news of Frank’s passing. We have known Frank and the Carey’s for going on 40 years. The memories of skiing together, visiting their cottage in Windermere, enjoying their hospitality at their famous and amazing Stampede Barbecues, and working together in our respective businesses, Frank’s presence was always felt and the memories will always be with us. Frank was larger than life and his ability to embrace everyone for who they were, was the true sign of the man who appreciated life and loved to share his personality and his leadership qualities to those around him. His untimely death provides guidance to everyone, to live life to the fullest, never look back and always treasure your family and fellow man. To Anita, your wonderful children and grandchildren and to Barb……we share your grief, mourn your loss and pray that his legacy will always be with you.

First, let me extend Elisabeth and my deepest condolences to Anita and the entire family, and to those among us who are deeply moved by Franks passing. Frank’s dad Larry and my dad Len had a strong business relationship. Frank once told me, “Our dad’s traded horses, and we’re gonna trade horses too.” We did, and like his many friends shared a raucous laugh, (especially enjoyed Frank’s signature laugh) along the trail. We will all miss his compassion and that mischievous twinkle that often foretold; something is about to happen!

Dear Anita, Patrick and Brandy, Dan, Andi and Jay, Mike and Emma, Neil and Julie,

We are terribly saddened by the passing of our dear friend Frank. We will miss the hugs, the twinkle in his eyes, the laughter, the true and honest friendship.

Not “catching up” with Frank during our trips across the country will leave an empty spot in our heart and soul.

We are honoured that Frank shared his wonderful spirit with us and are undoubtedly better people for having been touched by his kindness and wisdom. Not only did he share himself he shared you, his wonderful family, with us. For that, we are extremely grateful.

Frank taught us both that every time you met a new person, you had an opportunity for a new friendship that may last an evening, or a lifetime. We are both better people for having had Frank in our lives.

It is easy to smile thru our tears as we reminisce about the wonderful times and acts of kindness that we were blessed to share with our special friend.

We loved Frank and will miss him in so many ways.

  216. To,
Anita, Mike, Neil, Pat, Andy and Dan.
Please accept our condolences . Frank was a good friend to me and my family for 40 years and it is such a shock to learn of his passing. However, the shock is tempered by all of the great memories of such a larger than life character, a good friend and colleague.
We last met in March, had a couple of beers and proceeded to put the world to rights, agreeing to meet again in May and continue the process. Unfortunately, it was not to be. I am left with indelible memories of a warm hearted, friendly man, secure in his deeply rooted values of family, honesty and integrity.
I first met Frank back in 1978 when I joined 7-Eleven and moved our family to Calgary. During the next 20 years we worked closely together as both 7-Eleven, Canada and Wallace & Carey Ltd. grew and prospered. During those 20 years, we never had a contract. We did not need one. Franks’ word and his handshake was all the assurance that I needed to know that Frank and his team would always be there when we needed them. There is no way that 7-Eleven could have grown in Canada the way that it did, without the vision and support of Frank and the W&C organisation.
Since I retired from 7-Eleven and Frank and I matured together, we developed a unique bond of friendship and trust that grew through the years. These happy memories will remain with me long after the sorrow has passed.
RIP Frank, a friend for the ages!!!!
    Sincerely
    Frank, Ann and Paula Farr
