December 27, 1922 – Winnipeg, Manitoba
April 29, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with sadness that we announce the death of Pat Campbell: much loved mother, teacher, mentor and friend on April 29, 2015 at the age of 92 years. Her three daughters: Kim, Robin and Miji and six grandsons: Jeramy, Geoff, Stephen, David, Jordon and Alex will miss her profoundly.
Patricia Anne Murphy was born in Winnipeg in 1922. She grew up in Saskatoon, attending St. Paul’s School and Sion Academy. She loved the nuns who taught and advised her. After graduation, she attended Normal School. Pat began her illustrious teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in Allen, Saskatchewan. In 1954, she met and married George Campbell. Her next calling, motherhood, began in 1955 with the arrival of their first daughter.
Pat returned to teaching in 1966, as a “roving” consultant. Pat returned to university to complete her education degree in 1977 and continued teaching until retirement in 1988. Always active in the liturgical community of St. Gerard’s Church, she also volunteered with Catholic Family Services. With the birth of her grandsons, she became “R Gran” remembered for her boundless energy and sense of fun.
Pat began to deal with physical challenges and many trips to the hospital which she always seemed to handle with a positive attitude, grit and determination. As George’s health began to fail, she was a constant support until his death in 2006.
Pat moved to Trinity Lodge in 2009. She was much loved by care workers and residents alike. Her spirit remained strong but her physical health weakened. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by those who loved her, sharing their stories until the end.
