CAMERON, Arnold James

December 16, 1928 – Central Butte, Saskatchewan
June 15, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Arnold James Cameron, beloved husband of Donna Marie Cameron of Calgary passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the age of 90 years.

Arnie was born December 16, 1928 in Central Butte, Saskatchewan. He moved in Calgary in 1955 where he began his career as a mechanic with the City of Calgary. Arnie later became foreman of the Heavy Duty Equipment Division retiring in 1990.

Arnie was an avid curler entering many bonspiels throughout Canada. He also enjoyed playing pool and especially loved the many trips he and Donna took during their retirement. He was a loving husband to Donna for 60 years and a great grandpa to his three grandsons. Arnie was also a great uncle, son, brother, friend, father-in-law and guide. He would give anyone the shirt off his back and want nothing in return. He has left this life peacefully and now has a clear head and no more pain. He is now making people laugh in his quiet and calm way, causing shenanigans and maybe having a beer and/or eating ice cream with all the loved ones he has lost. We will see you again

Besides his loving wife Donna Marie, Arnie is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, Ian Cameron and Bev Akin of Calgary; daughter and son-in-law, Jill Cameron and Matthew Leith of Victoria, BC; grandsons, Cory, Shanon and Jordan; sisters, Doreen Symenuk and Dorothy Cameron; daughter-in-law Annette Cameron; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Bill Batt; brothers-in-law, Fred Symenuk, Leonard Lowry and Harvey Hedley; and nephews Brian Symenuk and Bob Lozinski.

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Alzheimer Society of Calgary, 800, 7015 Macleod Trail S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 2K6, Telephone: (403)290-0110, www.alzheimercalgary.com.

Arnie was a good, kind man and this world was a better place because of him in it. Sending much love and sympathies to Donna, Ian, Jill, and the Cameron family.

Arnie, this song is for you:

We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when
But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day
Keep smiling through, just like you always do
Till the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away
So will you please say Hello, to the folks that I know
Tell them I won’t be long
They’ll be happy to know, that as you saw me go
    I was singing this song
We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when
But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day

(Songwriters: Ross Parker / Hughie Charles)

    Dear Aunt Donna, Ian & Jill and family , Aunt Dorothy;
My heart is heavy just knowing that my favorite Uncle Arnold is gone from our lives. Even with Alzheimers he showed all the wonderfully warm characteristics that he showed his entire life. He was a warm, gentle, smiling, mischievious, funny, loving, patient, supportive man.
I got the best cars from my Uncle Arnold and he was indeed the best mechanic ever for a niece who knew nothing about upkeep of her vehicle.
It has been a true blessing to have you in our family.
I love you and will always have the best memories.
    Rest in peace Uncle Arnold…
Love Donna, Janelle, Mitch and girls
I know mom and dad and Bob will be so excited to see you again… .

My condolences for the loss of your dad, my uncle. We had several sessions with Naghmeh and the kids, sharing memories of him and saying prayers for the progress of his soul. He was a warm and vibrant man, he passed on to his kids a gene for a great sense of humor that I suspect may continue to next generations. Sorry I am back south now and will miss the funeral. You did your best caring for him and can now grieve and recover a bit.
    best

Donna , Ian, Jill and family…we are so saddened to hear about Arnie. We will remember him always as the kindest, most generous man we have ever known. His sense of humour was legendary, and we will remember all the laughs shared along with the occasional (or is that numerous?) drink of rum! We know he is up there smiling down on all of us. Our sincere condolences to all of you. xxxooo

Condolences to the Cameron family. I worked with Arnie at the Civic Garage and then Mechanical Services. As one of the Secretaries, we were constantly teased in a fun way and had lots of laughs. We lost touch when I transferred to Transit in 1975 but he was kind enough to come to my retirement luncheon in 2004. What a nice surprise for me.
    Will always remember his laugh…….

Dear Ian , Bev and Family
Although we know as adult children our parents have to pass one day into the next life, we are never ready even when we know it’s for best.
Ashif any myself never had the honour of meeting Arnie, but we sure know that if he is anything like the beautiful caring son we are proud to know as our friend (Dear Ian) then indeed he was a wonderful caring soul as all describe him
Bev (My Dearest Friend)in the time Arnie was blessed to know you as being Ian’s common law wife was a true blessing for him . For Arnie to witness on many visits your kind unconditional love and your smile and laughter that lights up any room must have made his heart sing.
We loved the stories you both would share with us about dad and we would all have a great laugh or sometimes we all just needed to have a little cry together. Through these stories, we truly felt we got a great glimpse of a beautiful individual who loved and lived life.
God bless you our friends and your family
    B & Ashif xoxo
