BYRNE, Fergus John

August 20, 1942 – Wexford, Ireland
October 27, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with incredible sadness that we share the sudden and unexpected death of Fergus Byrne on Saturday, October 27, 2018.

Fergus is survived by his loving wife Jane Cooper; his siblings, Deidre Boyle, Des Byrne and Nuala Byrne; father and mother-in-law, Patrick and Pierrette Cooper; sister-in-law Susan Cooper Burke (Steven); nieces, Caroline Boyle, Tanya Byrne, Alana Burke and Sarah Burke; and nephews, John Byrne, Simen Byrne, John Boyle and his daily companion Finnigan the cat, who loved him dearly.

Born on August 20, 1942, Fergus spent the last twenty-six years of his life dealing with Parkinson’s disease. He faced the disease with grace and courage, never uttering a word of complaint. He lived his life fully and continued to enjoy cooking, wine and puttering around the house. He continued on fearlessly and in the end it wasn’t the disease that ended his life.

Fergus loved the company of his friends, his Irish buddies, classical music and was interested in all things going on in the world. Fergus was an Electrical Engineer and his clever mind built many things and solved many problems and he will never be forgotten for his generosity of spirit and fundamental kindness. He was a sweet, gentle and lovely man and he will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

An Irish celebration of Fergus’s life will be planned, in his memory, in the coming days.
