BROWN, Thomas George

February 24, 1959 – Calgary, Alberta
July 29, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Tom Brown of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the young age of 59 years.

Tom was strong of character, a fiercely independent man who had a helpful, generous soul. He exercised a keen engineering mind and epitomized the wry, irreverent wit of the Browns. Tom was extremely devoted to his sons and most proud of their accomplishments along the way to them becoming good men. Beloved by all, we truly miss a great father, son, brother, and companion.

A born and bred Calgarian, Tom applied his business degree and acumen to a long career in the oil and gas industry, working for major corporations Amoco, Nexen, and Chevron as a financial analyst.

He enjoyed summer holidays at Shuswap Lake, BC, winter ski trips to the Rockies, and family outings where his skills as a consummate chef and promoter of Alberta beef were enjoyed by all. More likely to stroll through a hardware store rather than a park, Tom pursued a passion for renovation and construction projects, but still found joy in walking his irreplaceable furry best friend, Beethoven.

Tom is mourned and remembered by his partner Rose Wilson, and sons Tommy Brown (Sugi Ganesan) and David Brown. He is also survived and deeply missed by mother Bo Brown; sisters Deborah Brown (Art Harpur), and Carol Macleod (Neil); brother Ted Brown; nieces, Marissa and Shannon; and nephews, Jordan (Virginie), Peter and Heath. He was predeceased by his father Gordon Brown.

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Calgary Humane Society, 4455 – 110th Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2C 2T7, Telephone: (403)205-4455, or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, The family extends their gratitude to the medical professionals at South Health Campus, the police, EMS, and especially thanks the good Samaritan who first found our Tom in his time of need.

  5. S.T.Ganesan, Radha Ganesan and Preethi Ganesan :

It is with heavy hearts that we convey our condolences to the bereaved Brown family. Tom is one of the nicest people our family has come across; his gentle, loving, and caring nature will ever be remembered and relished in our memories. His quick wit and sense of humour cannot go without mention, and brought laughter into our gatherings that we will remember for years to come.
Tom always said that “we are family” and he truly lived up to that. The strong support and confidence he inculcated in us was extraordinary.
One strong impression that Tom left with us is to be helpful to others and always be cheerful. We will remember and celebrate him by emulating those traits in our everyday lives.

    With loving memory,
    The Ganesan Family
