BROWN, Marilyn Edna

June 16, 1960 – Calgary, Alberta
January 14, 2019 – Okotoks, Alberta

I have always been so lucky to be wrapped in the love of my family and in these last few months they have made my life so extra special. I am so sad to have had to leave them on January 14, 2019.

My husband of 39 years, Brent, my children Brett (Andrea) and Kristy (Curtis) and the very special loves of my life, my grandchildren, Bray and Timber, Frankee, Kale and Shaw. My brothers John (Deb), George (Karen), Jim and their children & grandchildren, many cousins, Aunts and friends.

I was so fortunate to have lived my life in the Red Deer Lake area, growing up at the Red Deer Lake Store, attending the Church and School, special occasions at the Hall and having such a wonderful community of old time neighbours and friends. I wouldn’t have traded that for anything.

My life was always busy at the store. I enjoyed playing sports, I loved 4-H (beef & cooking) and school. At 20 I went on to get married, have my family & enjoyed some great jobs at CWNG, ATCO Gas, Turner Valley School and most recently Cognera (another special family to me). I loved the cattle we raised at the farm and watching Brett & Kristy with cattle in the beef club. I always wanted to sing in a band but the best I ever did was singing around the campfire. I enjoyed all that makes up everyday family living but what warmed my heart and made me smile the most was living at the farm with Brent and sharing in sunny days outside with my kids, grandkids and family.

I believe I would have been remembered for a laugh that could keep the campground awake at night and a smile that was warm and welcoming. I have always enjoyed having fun with people.

I was predeceased by my wonderful parents, my one of a kind father, WJ (Bill) Norrie (1913-1994) and my amazing mother Lois (Morgan) Norrie (1921-2006).

Please join my family for a Celebration of Life at the Red Deer Lake Hall (178136 112 Street West, Foothills No. 31, AB), Friday, January 25, 2019 at 2:00pm with a reception to follow. Share your thoughts and memories with my family as they will certainly appreciate your support during this very difficult time. Children welcome!

If friends so desire, memorial tributes can be made to my grandchildren’s education fund at the Black Diamond Alberta Treasury Branch. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

When you look at the stars, see a sunflower or a ladybug, think of me! I will live on in your heart.

Happy Days! I Love You!

In living memory of Marilyn Brown, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40 Street SE., Calgary, AB, T2Z 4E6, Telephone: 403-203-0525.

  10. We are so unbelievably sad on hearing of the passing of our dear cousin Marilyn.
She was an amazing person with such an outgoing and vibrant personality.
Some of the best memories for us growing up, was driving out to the Red Deer Lake Store spending time with our closest Aunt, Uncle & Cousins. Marilyn always had things for us city slickers to see do and the Boys always let us ride the big trucks with them.
Although we did not spend as much time through the years together as we would have liked, the memories etched in the early days are there forever.
We offer our deepest and heartfelt condolences to Brent and his family and to our cousins John, George, Jim and their families.
    Sincerely,
    The Pattons

Dear Brent, Brett, Kristy, and families,
I am so incredibly sad to hear about the loss of Marilyn. I had the absolute pleasure of working with her for many years at Cognera. It is not an overstatement to say that she helped to shape my character, career, and life. She was, truly, one of a kind. She always had time for me, spending hours upon hours talking and sharing advice, stories, and laughs. She used to talk about all of you with such pride and joy. I’d do anything to hear her voice again. I would not be the person I am today, successful in love and life, without her guidance. She was an angel on earth who blessed so many. She will be missed. xo

Hearing of her passing brought back many memories of the parties/socials at your house in Midnapore, camping May long weekends and many other shenanigans that we did. 16. So sorry. When I think of Marilyn – I always remember that she fell while skating at Bowness Park and broke both of her elbows. When Marilyn told the story at work (CWNG), she made it sound humorous but I can’t imagine that it was. Safe travels, Marilyn.

  20. Such a big heart, such a spirit.
    Such a loss.

Growing up our families spent a lot of summers together, either us kids visiting the Alberta Norries, or M coming to stay with us. I have great memories of those times, as young kids, and as teenagers.

Throughout the good times and the bad times, M was always there for us.
When we lost my brother Don, she was there for us. I never forgot that.
When I finally got married, we had a small family gathering, away from home, and who surprised me to be there?

In later years, after M lost Uncle Bill and Auntie Lois, we all became even closer, M and Brent were a regular fixture at all the our family milestones: Barb and my 50th birthdays, Dad’s milestone birthdays, Mom and Dad’s 60th Anniversary.

Marylin and I were born 12 days apart, we would have been celebrating our 60th birthdays together at the next reunion, I was really looking forward to that.
It’s hard to think of a reunion without M there.

Now I’m looking forward to our first family reunion on the other side, because I know who’s already taken charge in getting it organized.

    She was a special one.

With love from all of my family,
    Dale Norrie

I was so saddened to hear of Marilyn’s passing. I not only had the pleasure of being apart of Marilyn’s Cognera Family’, but also the honour of sitting right next to her for about five years. Along with Megan, Chris, and Janet, we called ourselves ‘Row One.’ We shared many wonderful conversations and many laughs. I feel like I got to know a little about each of you as she spoke with so much love and pride about each and every one of you. Her love of life on the farm with her family, growing up in Red Deer Lake and her parent’s store, Brent’s work at Shell, your annual family camping trip down to the States, your dog Bella, her big brothers and their families, and of course her grandchildren who were her pride and joy. Her laugh could boom through the office. She was the glue that helped hold us together through good times and tough times and times of transition. Organizing Christmas parties and Stampede breakfasts, celebrating birthdays, babies, weddings, milestones, retirements…..she really was there for all of us. I will always remember her smile, her laugh and her strength. She was an amazing person that will be dearly missed. My deepest sympathies to you all. My thoughts are with you.

I attended Red Deer Lake school with Marilyn from grades one to nine. I always think of her fondly on my birthday since her birthday was 1 day after mine. 47. My cousin Marilyn was the sister I never had.

Growing up, we spent a lot of time together. It didn’t matter that we lived a province apart. We travelled together on many adventures. A great memory is us driving to California when we were 18 & 19. Neither one of us had a car so I went out, bought a Camaro and away we went, not a care in the world. As we would pass semi-trucks on the I5, Marilyn would put her arm out and pull it down so the trucker would blow his air horn. Then she would laugh… oh how I’ll miss that laugh.

Marilyn and I never missed a Norrie Reunion. They were always such happy times. We stood up for each other at our weddings and visited often after having our kids.

Marilyn would light up a room with her radiant smile and infectious laugh.

I will miss our conversations and all the good times we had together.

I will miss her so much and she will be in my heart forever.

I also know how important and so very special her family was to her and that she will live on in your memories and thoughts forever – that is what she would want.
