BROWN, Diane Adele

August 9, 1948 -Lacombe, Alberta
June 20, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

In loving memory of Diane Adele Brown. After living in Macau, China and returning to Canada in 2018, Diane lost her long battle with cancer and passed away on June 20th, 2019 at the age of 70.

For whether it has been in the jungles and rice patty fields of Asia, the bustling cities of China, US and England, off the Atlantic coast of Mexico, off the Pacific coast, BC and Taiwan, the shrines of Israel, the mountains of the Rockies, the towns, farms and coulees of the Canadian prairie provinces or, the tundra and forests of the Northwest Territories, she has touched them all and by doing so she has also touched our souls and enriched our lives.

Mother to Ruth Lorraine Florence Storm and Cindy Louise Brown; grandmother to Stevie Erica Ruth Brown and Shylo Elizabeth Adele Brown, she was the first born to Claude James Seaton Thompson and Lorraine Elvira (Sayre) McClean. She grew up with her brothers and sisters, William Dalton Seaton Thompson, Elvira Gay Thompson, Allen Eugene Thompson, Elizabeth Anne Thompson, and Todd Edward McClean; Also a loving aunt to Mathew Thompson, Amy Thompson, Drew Thompson, Jack Walker, Colter Waldern, Dawn Thompson, Daniel Thompson, Roquel McClean, Magnum McClean, and Summit McClean whom she has left behind.

Diane graduated from Frank Maddock High School in Drayton Valley, Alberta in 1967, and furthered her education at The University of Lethbridge where she obtained a Bachelor of Art and Science and a Bachelor of Education in 1984. After receiving her degrees, she taught various grade levels and at various colleges in such communities as Hobbema, Eden Valley, Wabasca, Calgary, and Macau, China, where she was able to make a difference and better the lives of so many.

She was always exploring, traveling and was an active member in the communities where she lived. This included participating in Acrobats in Kitimat, BC, high school basketball team in Lacombe, The Yellowknifer newspaper in Yellowknife, NWT, marathons and judo in Lethbridge, Rehabilitation Society of Calgary with Leroy Thompson, Lacombe Globe, Pembina River Nurseries, Hash House Harriers running group in Macau, China, and many more where she will always be remembered.

She became a devoted Baha’i while living Fort McMurry and will be remembered by lifelong friends Patricia Verge, Francine Byvank and so many others within the Baha’i community. She was involved with the Baha’i community on several First Nation reserves, Sylvan Lake Baha’i Centre, Macau, and Hong Kong to mention a few.

Thank you to all her other family members and friends, such as Racheal Wong, Bev Knowlton, MaryAnne DeWolf, Lila Starman, Shelly Henderson, Diane Koss, John & Mary Iblotson and family, Wells Jones and family and so many more for being a part of her life.

A Graveside Service will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery (3219 4 St NW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, July 5th, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
