July 25, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Al Brisske beloved husband of Lory Brisske (nee Mietzner) of Calgary, AB, passed away on July 25, 2019 at the age of 79 years.

Al was born in Neu-Sarata, Romania on September 20, 1939. He lived in Poland and Germany before immigrating to Canada in April 1956. Al was a Master Electrician who started with Star Electric in 1958. He received his “Red Seal” Certificate in 1970 and then continued on to his Master Certificate. Alfred accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of when he started his own electrical company – Direct Electric Ltd. Al remained in business working for himself until his retirement. He was a member of the Electrical Contractors Association of Alberta and volunteered and belonged to the Calgary United Soccer Association since 1959.

Al enjoyed his family, and friends. Al loved traveling and seeing the world. He always took time for a vacation or two a year with his wife. He also travelled with his soccer team, the Calgary Kickers. Al’s favorite saying was “Life is Good”. He will be most remembered for his sense of humor and his passion for life, family and friends. Tribute by Peter Mietzner

I met Alfred when I was a teenager and he was pursuing my sister. And boy, was he ever pursuing her! He wouldn’t take no for an answer, and together they raised four children. I’m happy to see Nancy, Fred, and Debbie here. Unfortunately their oldest, Rodney, passed at quite a young age.

Alfred was a very able and ambitious man. He became a master electrician and opened his own company and was extremely successful.

He was always very helpful to the rest of the family: As a matter of fact, he would never ever visit us without bringing his tool-belt and tools, because he just KNEW that I needed something done in the house. If I said I had nothing for him to do, he would FIND something that needed fixing, and he was right, I just hadn’t realized it yet.

When I saw him last week, the two of us did what we do best: We sat at the bar, had our beers and Drambuie and then talked about our families and life in general. He loved his immediate and his extended family. And he loved his soccer and his soccer buddies.

He will be missed by all who knew him. The world was a better place with him in it.

Both Elfriede and I will miss him greatly. Till we meet again.

I just wanted to send you a note to tell you how sad it is that Alfie is gone. I’m so shocked and sad.

I am sure that you are surrounded by love and support but please know that even those of us who can’t be with you still send their love, prayers and strength.

He (and you) were always so welcoming to me at soccer and I really appreciate how you both showed me what love really means.

    Sending you hugs.

It goes without say that we lost one of the best, kindest and most considered individuals I have ever known in my life.
Alfred was, from the day I met him, almost 50 years ago, on the Renferew soccer field, a true friend and the most positive person I have ever known.
Alfred was very lucky to have had such a wonderful partner as you in life.
We will miss Alfred until we will, one day again, see his smiling face.

  6. Hansi + Traudel Steinbrecher

    Hi Lory,

    In aufrichtiger Anteilnahme
    Hansi Steinbrecher

  10. Even though time and distance have separated us, growing up, the Brisskes were like a second family. It saddens me deeply to hear that Mr. Brisske has passed. No words can convey my sympathies for the family and Mrs. Brisske. The world lost a great man.

  11. Dear Brisske Family,

Very saddened to hear of the passing of Al and for your family’s loss.

I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend sometime with Al earlier in the decade as he built out our electrical system and assisted our business in expanding operations at our Canadian facility. I truly enjoyed Al’s visits to our facility, appreciated the work he orchestrated, the opportunity to discuss things with such a kind, knowledgeable and family orientated man. I respected his absolute love of family so much and the conversation we shared left a lasting impression on me as a person.

His tremendous laugh will be missed and certainly his unique perspective. I hope that as you grieve this loss you, when you are ready to move forward that the pain will be offset by all the amazing cherished memories of such an incredible man.

From our family to yours our deepest condolences, sympathies and support.
