BRISCOE, Winnifred “May” (nee Dyer)

December 30, 1937 – Northern Vancouver, BC
June 26, 2019 – Calgary, AB

Surrounded by her loving family, May Briscoe passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the age of 81.

May was born on December 30, 1937 in North Vancouver, BC and later moved to Calgary, AB where she married her husband, of fifty-seven years, William “Bill” John Briscoe in 1962, and they raised a loving family with two children and enjoyed four grandchildren.

Family gatherings and celebrations, and in particular “Tuesday Dinner at the Old Peeps” over the last decade, were central to what made May happy throughout her life. She was thoughtful, quick-witted and loved lively discussions and debate. She always had time to listen and openly shared her wisdom and provided advice to anyone who asked. May had a lengthy career in the oil industry and was a long-time member at the Inglewood Golf Club, where she made many friends over the years who remember her positive attitude and sense of humour. She loved unconditionally and was an outspoken advocate for anyone who genuinely tried hard and did their best. May loved all children and generously supported The Calgary Food Bank.

In addition to her loving husband Bill, May will be fondly remembered by her son William along with his partner Julie; her daughters, Lisa Briscoe and Ann MacKenna; and special family member Dave Smith; her memory will be cherished by her four grandchildren, Natasha, Sterling, Paris, and Trey; as well as her two furry grandbabies Charles and Ahbee; and she will be sadly missed by close family friends Leslie, Sandy and Moira. May is also survived by her brother David and many nieces and nephews.

At May’s request there will not be a formal ceremony, but rather an informal celebration of her life at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek Hospitality Centre, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com. In lieu of flowers, May would prefer a donation in her memory be made directly to the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank Society, 5000 – 11 Street S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 2Y5, Telephone: (403) 253-2059, www.calgaryfoodbank.com.

In living memory of May Briscoe, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.

I am so sorry to miss May’s Celebration. She shared her love of literature with me and we had many lovely discussions about the authors and novels we both read. She will leave a void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Xo Carolyn

    Bill,
    A big hug for you!
I still remember my first tournament ever at Inglewood and I had the pleasure of playing with you and May! May made me feel welcomed, we laughed, played how we played and laughed again! Since that time, running into either of you at the course made me happy! I will always have fond memories of her.
I hope to continue to see you play at the course!
    Take Care,
    Shirley Van Den Bosch
