BRABENDER, Elisabeth Maria

July 14, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Marliese of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the age of 80 years.

Marliese was born in Kaster, Germany on July 5, 1938. She met the love of her life, Günter in the neighbouring town of Bedburg, Germany and they were married in 1958 in Kaste Kr, Berghium, Germany when she was twenty years old. The couple immigrated to Calgary, AB, in 1961 where Marliese quickly put her training as a hair stylist to good use. She initially worked in a number of hair salons, but eventually pursued her own hair styling business. Marliese was known for her volunteer activities. She volunteered as a White Hatter at Calgary International Airport where she cared for passengers and their varied needs for over twenty-six years, she was a real people person. In recent years, she volunteered at St. Joseph Catholic Church and at the Fanning Centre. She will be greatly missed by everyone she worked with, her amazing friends and neighbors.

Marliese is survived by her sister, Christa and husband Reiner Danmen and their family; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-six years, Günter.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (640 – 19th Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. Reception to follow at the Parish Hall.

No words can describe how thankful we are for the Foothills Hospital emergency team as well as the doctors and staff on unit 36 for taking care of our dearest friend.
