BLAIR, Douglas Bruce (Doug)

July 29, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Doug Blair of Calgary passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the age of 91 years.

Doug was born on March 11, 1927 in London, Ontario to Mina and John Blair. He met the love of his life Gwyneth Cotterell and they were joined in holy matrimony in May of 1952. Together they shared sixty six years of marriage. Doug worked his entire career at Strike Rite Matches in London, Ontario. After his retirement Doug and Gwyn traveled extensively and in 2001 moved to Calgary to be closer to their grandchildren. He was very proud of his Scottish heritage and had a strong devout faith with the Anglican Church. In his spare time, Doug was an avid sportsman. He loved to coach fastball and basketball and he was an expert bowler. Doug loved to spend his summers with his family on Georgian Bay where they spent numerous hours sailing. He was fiercely proud of his independent living until 2017.

The family would like to give thanks to the staff at Cedars Villa for their compassionate care in Doug’s final months.

Doug is survived by his loving wife Gwyneth; sons and daughters-in-law Chris Blair and Lori Skirten, Tim and Sheryl Blair; his four precious grandchildren Taylor, Quinn, Derek and Rachel. He is also survived by his step-sister and brother-in-law Neta and Terry Turner of North Lancaster, Ontario.

He was predeceased by his parents Mina and John Blair.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W., Calgary, AB), on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Funeral Home. Graveside Service will take place at a later date in London, ON. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
