  2. Dear Brett,
I immigrated to Canada from the UK in 1985 and that was when I first met your dad. I came to Canada as a computer guy and soon found myself trying to fathom out the mysteries of the life and general insurance business in order to assist in the upgrading of the systems for Sovereign Life and Sovereign General Insurance. Your dad, at the time the manager of the Calgary branch of the companies, was the first to help me unravel the problems. He had a great sense of humour and was always enthusiastic about any change that could improve things for his clients and I quickly learned that he loved to innovate in his business life.

You dad was always at the top of the ladder when it came to sales results and he introduced so many people to the insurance business, many of whom are still helping Canadians today make the right choices for the protection of their families and their futures.

I mentioned earlier his sense of humour and I will never forget an occasion when he was being recognized as a top producer at a conference at the Ritz Carlton at Laguna Beach. Part of the reward was the personal use of a White Lincoln Town Car. One morning when meeting him, I asked where he and Helen were going that day. “Down to Mexico”, he said. “I hear I can get a good price for this jalopy down there!”

Just one last thing, Brett – remember that your dad promised he would sneak those black and white shoes of yours and give them to me!

    Best Regards,

    John White
(Former President and CEO of Sovereign Life)

  6. Dear Malla and Brett,

I am deeply saddened by this news. Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss.

Your father and I first crossed paths when he hired me to join his life insurance brokerage. Although I left Calgary many years ago, Arnie and I stayed in touch. Whenever I returned to Calgary for a visit, I would look forward to seeing Arnie. He became a great friend to me. His clients and his industry associates would know him as an astute businessman. He was certainly all of that. But beyond that, he was a caring man who always displayed a great concern for his friends and of course for his family, who he loved very much.

    Rest in peace, my friend.

    Peter Morris
