Paul fondly remembers coaching Wes in hockey and the boys will always remember the fun they had playing with him. Davis says he always added some color to the dressing room with his sense of humor. We are thinking of you in this most difficult time and willing you strength for the coming days, months, years. I’m so sorry for everything that you have had to go through this past week, I can only begin to imagine how hard it must be. Over the years, I’ve had so many fond memories practicing, playing, and winning hockey tournaments alongside of Wes. After school was out for the summer and I was in need of a friend, Wes would always be the first person I would call to go cycling and to play golf with. On our walks to go golfing at Lakeview, only a few blocks away from both of our houses, I can vividly picture the funny jokes that came along with Wes’ great personality and amazing smile to match it. Thinking back now, I only wish I could have spent more time with you Wes, you were such a kind and sincere person.

    Dear Rod, Nadia and Rosalyn,
We are shocked and saddened to hear of Wes’ sudden passing. We cannot tell you how sorry we are to hear of the loss of your wonderful son. There really are no words. Wes had such a great, quirky sense of humour and the years at the rink allowed us to get to know him and you a little better each year. The Hawks did miss him last year. It was clear how much he loved his sports and he lightened up the locker room with his sense of humour. He will be deeply missed by the hockey boys and parents. Please accept our deepest sympathies.

  85. My family was beyond fortunate to have just visited our Canadian cousins in Calgary this summer. Wes was a wonderful host. He gave up his basement for our family to stay and toured us all around Calgary. Of course he had to sit in the front seat of my rental car with his long legs. We got to see all the areas he grew up, went to school, and played hockey. We were also treated to the Calgary Stampede and Canmore/Banff. I learned that he had a hole in one in golf at Shaganappi while I don’t after playing for 15 years. Jealous! We discovered a common love for chicken wings and loved to see his smile while eating his grandma’s cheesecake. He spoke highly of his friends and family, even letting us know that he actually has a friend taller than him. We learned of his plans to be a mechanic. I believed it to be a certainty that he would accomplish his goals, not just a possibility. He was a gentle giant with a kind soul and giant heart. He was a teenager burgeoning to be a fine young adult. We were looking forward to vacationing with Wes and family for many years. His sudden death is a tragedy beyond any words. We will cherish the memory of every moment we spent with Wes. Love you always Wes!
