BERINGER, Katherine

May 15, 1922 – Prelate, Saskatchewan
December 1, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

Kay, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, of Calgary AB, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017 at the age of 95.

Growing up in Schuler, AB, as the ninth of eleven children, Kay developed the resilience that would define her life. Kay had a difficult life – from the Dirty Thirties and World War II, to the loss of her husband three years after the birth of their second daughter – and she met every challenge with unwavering strength. While she is known for her tenacity and toughness, she is equally remembered for her warmth and kindness. Her door was eternally open to those in need of a place to stay. Her determination, sense of humour and good heart were an inspiration to the many lives she touched.

Above all, Kay loved her family. She filled each and every member of her family with warmth, with love, and with a little bit of fierceness only she could provide. As a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Kay was patient and generous beyond measure. Hers was a unique love; it will be earnestly missed, and warmly remembered.

Kay is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Rena and Gerry Heddinger, and Brenda and Rob Sevick; her grandchildren, David, Wayne (Lisa), Johnathan, Laura and Kristen; and her great-grandsons, Ryan and Matthew. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Diana and Esther, and numerous nieces and nephews. Kay was predeceased by her husband Andy in 1962 and all ten of her brothers and sisters.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
